OK it's another newbie on the forum, so before I dive straight into the other sections asking for help, here's a little introduction
H Reg 8v GTi in red, owned it for a few months now, been lowered, sports exhaust, alloys and stiffer suspension. Runs well most of the time and gives me fun on my daily commute.
I bought the Golf as a substitute for my MR2. The MR2 was proving increasingly more expensive to run and increasingly less practical so I knew it's days were numbered and I'd have a suitable replacement. Came across the GTi by accident, never owned one before but my step dad's son was selling his, so I snapped it up, knowing they have a good reputation for reliability, are fast becoming part of motoring history and most importantly, still have enough poke to keep me smiling when I drive it
I don't really know a great deal about them, having been into MR2's for the last 5 years, but I plan on learning

Thanks for the welcome guys and girls
No pics I'm afraid, can't even offer any of the car at the moment either  Not sure I wanna tell you lot my age, I hardly know you! Anyway, I live in Basingstoke and can be frequently seen blatting it round Basingstoke's ring road or up and down the M3, practicisng my creative lane changing  Having driven rear wheel for the last god knows how many years, I'm re-discovering the joys of wheel spins and under steer! It's an excellent car to drive, very, very different from the MR2 (of course!!) but I find it pretty responsive especially if I red line from 2nd into 3rd, then I seem to really hit my power curve once in third.
Anyway, I'm sure I'll enjoy my stay and hopefully get lots of info on the GTi's and have lots of fun too
