Title: mk2 syncro - a couple of questions...............
Post by: Mew on 11 November 2005, 17:17
Hi, i have a couple of questions about parts for the mk2 syncro.
What parts on the car are specific to the syncro? (apart from the body and 4wd bit obviously!)
i was thinkin along the lines of exhaust, suspension, bits i would want to upgrade basically.

Thanks, ben.

well those two bits are definately different!! the front shox will be the same but the rears are very different (because of the 4wd obviously) and the exhaust is different because, again, the 4wd gets in the way. you'll probably have to go for rallye suspension and exhaust, or custom exhaust if you want to start upgrading things.

exhaust, rear suspension/transmission bits, centre tunnel, gearbox, carpets, centre console, handbrake trim/gaitor.  Think that covers it :)
What are you planning like, modifying a synchro or fitting the synchro to a normal MK2?

Well i was going to get a 1.8 mk2 driver and put a weber on it, gti cam, gti or stainless exhaust and some decent suspension, as it has to stay insurance friendly for me at the moment. Then i thought about doing the same to a syncro, but in a year or 2 i would have a syncro base a project on.

defently go for a custom exhaust. they cost about the same, but you can choose whatever sound and tailpipe design you want :D

Next question!

Will the syncro gearbox fit on an 8v gti with a 2.0 bottom end? If so, will it and the drivetrain be capable of the power if i tune this engine, or will i have 2 uprate it in some way?? Any help would be appreciated, cheers.

EDIT: sorry, this should be in the garage section shoudln't it! Shall i repost it or can a mod move it?

It will mate up, but am unsure if the gearbox/drivetrain will take the power, you might have to think about getting a synchro system off a Rallye/G60?

yeah i'd agree with jonny on that. as far as i'm aware the synchro's were only a 1.6 carb? (correct me if i'm wrong) and i'm sure i've been told the drivetrain is preety weak in comparison to the rallye's one.
