Title: Hunting Idle problems.
Post by: Judderi on 10 November 2005, 09:37
Ok i will start at the begining. I was playing around with my LPG mix trying to get it to work better. I was sat at traffic lights in the centre of Newcastle in rush hour when i went to pull off and something went pop! So i popped the bonnet and the hose in the pic below had popped off.

So i pushed it back on a re started the engine. Now when running on petrol it will not tick over correctly or even at all most of the time. The revs seem to hunt dropping from about 1500 to 0 and back up and down again until it stalls. It seems to run and idle correctly on LPG even thought it is a little rough and judderi on the way back down the revs. But this morning in the cold and wet i was unable to start the engine at all.

Is seems that there was a pressure build up in the intake hose caused by the LPG feed. But surely this should have been diverted away by the Idle controll valve?

So i have a few ?'s what is this bit that blew off and what does it do. It has some kind of vacume hose attached and looks like a diverter valve.

Also if the pressure built up so much and wasnt released down the idle controll valve into the intake manifold could the idle controll valve be blocked or jammed? It still buzzes by the way.

Any ideas people?

Here are some pics showing my engine and the LPG feed setup. Notice how all the hoses are jubilee clipped except the one that blew off.

On my old k-jet there was two vaccume pipes going to the mix screw.

It was running rough and hunting up and down. went for a rolling road and they noticed that there should of been some sort of shim in the pipe like yours that came off to reduce air flow. they put one in a was running sweet

worth a look

cheers
