Title: power steering pipes
Post by: VR6_ROB on 09 November 2005, 19:23
I am swapping my power steering pipes putting vr ones in my rack
one bolt is screwed on the gti pipes that are still in but i got one out

but i noticed half way up the pipe it goes thicker
and they is some sort of small metal cover where it changes
from thin to thick can these be removed as i aint seen out like it before

and if it can i could change thta pipe halfway

I dont think  you would be able to split that join, but i dont really understand why you would want to anyway.

because the nut is rounded off on the rack
i cant unbolt it to put the new pipes in as they have different ends

so i thought if i could undo that i could attatch new part on to that
then it will go into the pump ok

dunno if that makes sense

why dont you just cut the rubber pipe and rejoin with a piece of copper pipe and 2 jubilee clips?

i wouldnt recommend that with the power steering because of the pressure created in the system when its running..i had a leak on one of my pipes and tried patching it up...i soon found out how quickly the fluid can find its way out of the system!!
