Good evening folks!
I've got an '87 5-door gti 8v in oak green..... Completely standard!!! Original stereo... 57k miles.
The thing is that as i'm selling my BMW 530 (don't get excited it's a wreck, i haven't got loads of cash!). The gti keeps up well with the Bmw, to about 85mph, then the larger engine takes it to places i can only dream of!
What are my options for giving me a little more GO? I was originally looking for a 16v gti, but after i drove a few i wasn't sold on them. IMHO they are really too revvy and you can't use 'Go everywhere in 3rd gear' mode
So getting a 16v is out of the question...... and i do like the standard look (where did i leave my flat cap.....).
Cheers guys!

2ltr conversion? Theres not allot really you can do.
Different gearbox?

2L bottom end, and a mild cam ?
-
and a decent exhaust and a panel filter.

2.0 litre 16v engine from a MK3, loads of torque and loads of top end, can get them up to 170BHP with a little tuning & an ECU remap (VW limited the 2.0 16v to 150 BHP so it wouldn't 'steal the VR6's thunder' as it were ;))
Suprised Mk2GTI2.016v didn't suggest it really

Been there done that
To be honest i prefer the old K jet valver with a 2.0 bottom end over the ABF lump.
Anyway i did suggest it. Second reply i think.
