Title: Uprated loom for Main Beam
Post by: rowlers on 08 November 2005, 19:35
Anyone know how easy it is to know a loom up that updates the main beam?? I done one for the dipped beam which is miles better, just thought a similar thing would work on the mainbeam as well?

same loom just connected into wire going to the main beam??? If so which is this wire any ideas?

Cheers folks!!

Dizzie makes a full loom upgrade for not a lot of dosh. Very good quality and well worth the money.

I've asked before - sorry!
Have a full loom made up 2 relays etc... tried to wire in to day, only thing I managed to do was blow the near side full beam fuse!!!

This must just work the same way as the matey-matey.com dipped beam loom. How (which wire do I connect in to???)

Now when using main beam the lights are dimmer that dipped beam because (after measuring with meter) you only 9 volts to all four lamps, on dipped (with uprated loom I get 13v to 2 lamps!)

I think I may have just used the wron wire for the main beam (there are 2!)

will let you know how things go!

There's 3 wires going into the headlight plug. On my 8v, the yellow/black one is for dipped beam, and the white/black one is for main beam, not sure about other versions. If you go on the principle that the one in the middle is for dipped, and the solid black wire will be negative you should be ok.

You need a seperate relay for each as shown in matey matey. Have just made one myself and will be fitting it this week, along with some xenon bulbs I got from ebay.

i've got lot maade up, but could get the main to come on at full 13volts only 9. I used the white wire, to switch the relay, but to no avail. must be the other wire of the pair!

Are both relays connected to the positive terminal on the battery?

why don't you tear out the old loom and put in a whole brand new one????  :undecided:

I'm no sparky when it comes to electrics, but I'd guess trying Maplins? Or anyone who knows got any better suggestions?

maplins or halfords
maplins are cheaper.

connecting an uprated loom (one of mine for sure) isn't hard. you must be doing something wrong if it's blowing fuses.

the matey matey diagram is the one I worked from. What amp cable are you using? are you sure the alternator is charging correct, etc?
