Title: service intervals
Post by: papperbear on 31 October 2003, 13:34
I'm looking to buy a GTI T with 52,000 miles.  How many services should I expect to find in the log book ?

My 2000' 1.8T 150 had 10,000 miles service intervals. These were 'warned' by the trip computer approximately 800 miles prior to the service.

Strangely my 03' 1.8t 180 went past 10,000 last week and I've had no warnings, so I called VW and they checked the number plate and said it has "variable service" intervals and that it will still warn me before the service is due. They said it might be 18,000 before it requires its first service!!

My '02 PD150 is on a variable service and I did 17000 miles before it warned me to get my first service done.  Nice!

I'm a bit dubious about this variable service and long life oil. Surely as changing the oil is the most important job to maintain the engine, then maybe it should be done at least once a year or every 10k.
