Title: brakes that help with constipation
Post by: fireman sam on 07 November 2005, 19:29
as above nearly sh!t meself a few times this week due to the brakes not doing as they should :undecided:

mostly on a wet day or day after its worse but heres whats happening,

press the stop pedal  and everythings ok unless i happen to hit any sort of bump in the road or go over anything metal like a grid cover etc and the brakes loose power and takes twice as long to stop. also get abit of a grating sound like im crunching gears is the best way to describe it. had new front pads this time year so they're still alright so im at a bit of a loss with my limited non-existent mechanical knowledge.
sounds a bit daft i know but this is the only time it happens, any ideas ppl
cheers keith

Have you actually looked at your brake pads?

One of my front callipers was biding everso slightly and it wore the pads right down whilst the other side still had 3quarters left on em   only showed up on the rollers when it went for the MOT  :embarassed:

Thats called ABS mate. It means you're about to skid/lose control (cant turn the car with the wheels locked up) so the car eases off the brakes, its more apparent this time of year with greasy roads. Give it a try, stomp your foot all the way to the floor, you'll never skid.

pretty much.. basically if you need to stop in a hurry just shove your foot down as hard as you can and you dont have to worry about skidding into whatever's infront. ABS has saved my neck on several occasions.
