As a lot of you probably know I've had a 16v engine sat in the garage for about 6 months now
I was going to get the conversion done over the winter. However, I've been having second thoughts and been thinking of selling the engone and box and using the money towards a full cream leather interior.
So should I go for shamone looks or more power? I've had the Weber conversion on my engine and a 1600 box from a mk1, so my cab isn't that slow. Before I had the box done my times on the strip were 0-60 9.95 1/4 mile in around 17 seconds (just a little bit slower than Gibby's GTI).
-
Please ignore my spelling and gammer mistakes above  :embarassed:
I've been told a guy in Swansea does full leather for around £600 on a MK1 cab.
-
leather
-
leather for sure!
who the guy that does a retrim can you pm his details please
-
How about both Chris ?
It might take longer to do both but I think if I had a choice I'd go for the leather first as your cabby is quick enough already and the leather would set it off a treat. Just to cement your choice, one of the users on here, sorry forgot the name :embarassed: , but he did a best of 17.2 1/4 mile in his mk2 8v the other weekend, so he's around the same time as us really, so although not lightning our cabby's are nippy.
I thought the 16V conversion was going to be a nightmare moving from carbs to injection ? :undecided:
Edit: I think I selected the wrong option on your poll, so take one off conversion and put it on leather. :embarassed:
-
go for the p i m p option
-
have to weigh it up mate, are you really going to need the conversion in the near future seeing as you commute to work or would you rather have something nice and comfy to sit in, and still have enough poke to put a grin on your face.
-
leather hunny!! if i had to pick one!
Dinx
-
leather! if your cab's doin times like that theres already a bit of poke in it and lets be honnest, if ur priority was speed you wouldnt have bought a cab in the first place! Get it done my friend! Will make all the difference!
-
Got to be leather in a Cabby
-
Leather now..... conversion next winter
-
Cheers for all your views
I'm gonna get Velly to put it all on e-bay and use the money to go for the leather
Might have to save for a couple of months, but plan on getting it done before the summer
-

Chris, I've got cream leather in mine and it makes so much difference with the look compared to the cloth interior IMO, unfortunately I've never taken any pics of my interior, but have a looksy at this website, it has a load of interiors on it, it's mostly USA specs I think but you'll get the idea. --> http://dana.ucc.nau.edu/~kaw5/interiors.htm
-
it will all be on ebay on the weekend.
kr 16v lump + gearbox
metering head
50mm manifold
256mm brakes
mk2 s.s system
the list goes on

Ok really considering its probably been a daily driver for all its life, theres some wear on the top bolster of the drivers seat but it's more of a scrape than a hole through if you know what I mean, the back are mint as they never get used and the passenger seat is fine. I probably need to get myself some of that liquid leather stuff just to get rid of some of the blemishes on them. Have you thought about just getting your seats recovered Chris ?
-
gibby..dont you not ever worry that sumones gonna take a liken to ur interior n just *rip* and take the stuff out? tis wot goes throu my mind wen i think about leather and the fact that i dont no if anyone else has the same interior as me...so wudn wanna spoil it?! :undecided:
Dinx

I had my standard seats re-covered in black leather with white stitch detail and white embroidered VW logo's on the fronts and as soon as the funds permit I'll be having more work done to the door cards etc. Highly recommend MJ Interiors if your up this way.

tbh Di, I've never ever thought about it but I'd hope my alarm would have gone off long before they start ripping it out. You just know I'm gonna be sh1tting my pants all the time now though dont you !
As Mirage- says Chris, MJ is up this end and just near me so if you got him to do it and you needed somewhere to kip I can sort that out for you no problem.
-
arh..sorry hunny..its just thats wot i always think.. but then again,as for gettin leather...i change my mind mind as often as the weather!

Dinx
You're a bird, that's the law isn't it ! No wait, that's it, you dont change your minds, we need to guess what you want, that's it.  I see a thread hijack happening here.
-
Gibby..i think im rather a straight-forward girlie..easy to understand..i mean..how many g/fs could you buy an exhaust for and they'd be happy?!
yeah..and you's lot always blame poor mix..
Dinx
-
Was thinkin that Di, one more successfully hijacked thread and no a sing of mix anywhere!
Surely the fact that youd be happy with an exhaust for a prezzy just makes u more complicated? At least most ladies u can get round with shiny jewelry and flowers!
-
...and flowers from the local garage are far cheaper than a full exhaust system that's for sure !
-
 that can work too...see..im really easy to buy pressies for! and..i used to work on ex's rs..and help him clean..now c'mon..little angel me!
Dinx
-
...women liking their cars are MUCH worse!!
if you get them something for the car then you should have got them something nice and girly and vice versa..can never win!!
-
oh...you guys are just moaners...hate it wen we moan about you's spending too much time/money/effort on cars instead of us..and then moan wen we spend time/money/effort on ours...
you's lot always say its us women whom are complicated..i think not! you's lot are just as bad..if not worse..
Dinx

Is that how they came out the factory??? those seats are much nicer than the ones i've seen in the scrappies
-
Mate I would be questioning the quality of the work for only £600, would cost lots more than that in getting decent quality leather and good workmanship ( i have worked in a Porsche trimmers on and off for 5 years!)

Yup indeedy, that's a factory fit Rivage leather interior that I posted.
Have a look here for some prices at arguably the best trimmer around the VW scene --> http://www.mjinteriors.co.uk/Prices.htm

I think the answer is full cream leather & 16v (turbo) conversion

Good skills Gibby, they are lush  That's really made my mind up now :nerd:
I should have some new pics of my cab on here by the end of the week
