Post by: knobby on 02 November 2005, 13:18
Hi Guys

Well i'm looking for another Golf, but this time something slightly different.. A Rallye

If anyone has one or knows someone who is looking on selling one, please let me know. Looking to spend anything from 3k to 5k.

Cheers

Hi

Nice.. they look good.. Not too keen on the Red Rallye..

My advice to you would be, keep them tucked up in the garage until the summer and fit them then, and then remove again went the weather gets poor. I would also ensure you are using a low dust brake pad. These rims corrode very easily mainly do to the machined deep dish rim. Also if you have metal tyre values i would remove these also and fit rubber ones, most of the time the metal versions are made of cheap metal and will increase the speed of corrosion on the rims.

Not sure what rims i will go with next.. fancy some real wide real small rims.. could be fun!

Anyways i need a Rallye first.. Anyone got any ideas?

Cheers

There may be some more elsewhere but that's just what I've seen about recently.

There's one on autotrader, same colour as jv's I think but he wants 7k for it !

Yes I do still look around to see what rallyes are for sale where before anyone asks.

Hi Mate

Thanks for all the details.. Its really appreciated!

Still after a little more information, i would be using the Rallye daily, my journey to work is only 11 miles there and 11 miles back so its not a great deal just wondered how it would cope with that. Plus i dont want a backbreaker, my old MK2 With coilovers was so so bumpy! dont wanna go back to that again!

All rallyes as standard have a 1763cc 8v G60 supercharged 1H engine (thats right, not 1781 like the PG engine'd G60's) producing 160bhp. All 4wd, all LHD.. if it's RHD its been converted no matter what the seller may try to tell you. Half leather, ABS and sliding sunroof as standard. Recaros, electric mirrors and windows and central locking were all options.
Probably loads more i've forgotten (jv is the ubernerd he will know)  but just ask if you want to know anything specific.

So its probably the best for handling of the Mk2's.

What about 0-60 and top speed for a standard version.. any ideas?

Post by: topher on 02 November 2005, 19:30
according to my brochure its standard 0-60 is 7.6 seconds, but if you ask me thats a bit optimistic due to the weight of it.. lots of people quote 8.7 which may be nearer the truth. top speed in the brochure is 130mph.. but who wants to leave a G60 monster standard  simple charger/chip mods will make you grin like an idiot (and will also shut those 16v drivers up who boast their cars are quicker than a rallye)

Gonna say i wouldnt buy one if you couldnt get better performance than that... i recon my 8v was quicker.. he he

So i really wanna be looking at one which has had the work done to it then... Wanna really spend between 3-4.. not sure im gonna get one for that though..

Ummm  :undecided:

The bargains are out there if you're patient enough, i picked up mine for 3.3 with all the engine/suspension mods done, and 2 sets of wheels. No idea of the power but i've had an indicated 150mph from it, and it outdrags my remapped 1.8T mk4 which does 0-60 in 6.5 secs.

Going rate lately seems to be 4.5 - 6k for tidy examples, but if you're lucky you'll find someone selling what they think is just a G reg golf with jetta headlights, a bodykit, and a whooshy thing under the bonnet

G60 brochures pop up on ebay now and again.. all in german obviously. dunno if they made one specifically for the Ed1, you sure yours is an Ed1 ? as far as i know they only made them in grey, black, and burgandy.
