The old mk3 has been getting a bit tired recently so I've laid down some fat wedge to get myself a mk4, pickin her up on Friday hopefully. Got a few questions.
mk4 rear bumper doesn't have a cut out for an aftermarket exhaust. Will I have to buy a whole new bumper if I want to upgrade the exhaust or just the valance at the bottom?
18's or 19's: Anyone got 19's on their mk4? What's the ride like? If anyone can point me in the direction of some decent pictures of a mk4 with 19's on that would be great!
I'm (hopefully) going to have some money for a set of HK Highsport coilovers in a couple of weeks, anyone using these? Any good?
Cheers,
Vanish

Cheers for that Speedo. It's only a 2.0l GTi I'm afraid  I did look into a 1.8T but with 9 points and only 1 years NCB my insurance co wanted to rape me! Plus my budget was tight and all the 1.8T's in my price range had crazy mileage! It's on a W plate with 63k in Jazz Blue. Don't pick it up til Friday, might even attempt to get some pictures up when I get it!
I think I'll forget bout 19's and just get some 18" A8 rims for it. Don't want to mash up the ride quality too badly plus I can't seem to find anything else for similar money that look as good and cant stretch to any BBS or Keskin jobs (ssen those badboys you're getting in your project thread, sweet as fook)

ive got the fk highsport coilovers on mine vanish, there top banana really, easily adjustable will go low as a mother or you can wind it up to standard hieght, build quality of them is good there nickle coated so they wont rust all in all good package for the money, but depending on how low you wanna go you might need to either get an uprated antiroll bar or modified droplinks to move the standard anitroll bar up as any lower than 55mm and you can have driveshafts fouling the antiroll bar, i dived in and bought a neuspeed antiroll bar kit £185 and that and the coilovers have made the car go round bends like a gti should

theres some pics on there of some of me bits and how it made the car look.... im running 17"s at the mo and am having a change of ideas so £350 will get you a nice set of act split rims

hey speedo, your Jetex exhaust, where did you get that from!!??

as for wheels, me personally i wouldn't go anything bigger than 18's tbh, as i see it vw put 18's on a R32, and 18's on the Anni which i believe is the biggest vw put on the golf as standard (i think), my concerns would be if you put 19's on your golf then what "side effects" are you gonna get, like to much strain on the power steering pump, gearbox.. also speedo maybe be put out etc..
but thats just me

Cheers for your help guys and gal. Sacked the idea of rolling on 19's, seen the price of tyres!

jetex do a nice r32 style job now, quiet nice, check out http://www.jetex.co.uk/website/jetex_exhausts_chooser.php?mat=Stainless+Steel&mak=Volkswagen&mod=Golf+Mk4

cheers speedo, thats the style exhaust i was looking for but you see so many on the market.. and i keep wondering if i buy one what will it sound like, as i would like a bit of noise but not too loud or like a wet fart noise like some exhaust sound like

Just flicking through some old PVW's for a bit of inspiration and in issue10/04 there's a feature on a phat mk4, yellow, slammed to the floor. In the spec the owner has "removed the front anti-roll bar." Doesn't mention an aftermarket replacement seems as if he's just ditched the OE one. Can this be right? Surely his car must handle like a jelly-on-a-plate now?!?

i'm rolling on 19's and lowered 30mm. looks great and the ride is fine

Hey Speedo , love your wheels , looking forward to more photos when your nearly finished , but you know only to well that you really never will be ! Can I ask where you are getting your Fog Lamps from ? I've been looking to buy a set since I got my Mk4 2l GTi in June this year and have been singularly unsuccessful . I 'd tried Eurocarparts but they say the kit they have is not suitable for the GTi or the TDi Mark4! Also do you know if there is wiring in place on the MK4 for these lamps ? I fitted a set to a MK2 I had and the correct wiring was already in situ....all you had to do was plug it in I do hope that it's the same on the MK4 when I eventually get a kit .

offtopic here... which foglamps are you thinking of ? the ones that go in the lower grills and block airflow to the poxy little intercooler which struggles to keep heatsoak away at the best of times ? think twice, or get a front mounted intercooler
