After running my car at Avon Park on the weekend im now on the hunt for performance upgrades for it.
Its totaly standard at the mo so I know the first thing to get would be a performance filter and exhaust system but what would be the next value for money upgrade to get?
PS Does a ectec filter thingy do anything?

all a performance filter is going to do is make the car sound different I.E. throaty.
Get your car to a tuning company and get them to redo the timing and fuel air mix, that should free up a few horses. Exhaust will help by letting the car breath easier and expell gases quicker. Main mods you can do to it, is get a 285 high degree cam, (or something of similar ilk) and get that put in, but then again you will need the timing sorted out after that.

Is that a lumpy cam? I forgot to say that the Gti is my main car so I need it practical but a little quicker.

If the 8v is your main car, then just get it seen too by a vw tuner, they will sort out everything you need to make it a bit more punchy and also get a decent quality stainless exhaust fitted, basically al you can do to get the car breathing properly. If high performance is not your aim then just getting the basics right will help you out and put a grin back on your face.

if its your daily a 285 may be a bit lumpy for you and will use the fuel alot quicker. i've got one in mine and i used it as a daily driver for a few years but i couldn't do it now. too much effort!! :P
like slick said, get it breathing right and thats the best you can do, with otu spending too much dosh. the next step would be cam/polished+ported head/ performance manifold but they all cost a few hundered.....
ecoteks do sweet fanny adams on digifants.

Yeh get it tuned and leave the exhaust as standard. Ive noticed that mk2's run sh!t when you mess about with exhaust systems. Could just be me
-
yea i run my mk2 golf 1.9 tsr with the standard exhaust and it pulls well but i would like to know if a manifold and exhaust system would be better

So all I could really do is to get it R/Road tuned then? Thats n easy fix, im gonna book a session up Wilfeild Motors.
