Bad news is engine is showing signs of wear. Been giving it alot of thought and decided to spend the money, get the job done properly and keep her for a good 5 years more if not longer. Not sure on prices of reconditioning. I see TSR do a 1.8 8v fitted for £1750, i take it this is a recon engine?

Thoughts and advice appreciated

Would hope so for that price! :)

Guess it depends on whether you are after an increase in performance or just a fresh engine?

JV was more after keeping it running heatlily. a VR6 or even 2.0 16v would be nice but insurance wise im not too keen...

VR6 would be waaaaaaay too heavy - unless all your journeys consist of straight roads
I know someone who has had a 2.0 seat lump (i think) put in theres

Looks nice

cabs are k-jet arent they? to save pissin about with wiring up anything different, i would just put a 1.8 8v in but maybe tweak it a bit, ported head with a bigger cam etc.

to be on the straight and narrow (and i take it youve told insurers how nice its is and got an agreed value as shes an oldish girl) it gofor the up grade to a 1.8, will make it alot livelier and im sure it wont cost too much extra.... no point doin stuff and not tellin your insurers cause if owt happens youll not get paid out... so it does pay to be honest in my opinion

tbh Rich..ive found that a 1.8 8v is ok to be insured on..so im sure you'd have nothing to worry about cost wise..and i would declare any engine mods..or anything of real value,if you get my drift..

I do see what your saying...

the 1.8 for only 670 quid sounds a bargain. not sure how much of a straight swap it is for a 1.6 gli though...?

how much should I look for fitting wise? 500 quid?

thanks again!
