Toying with the idea of a 2.0 conversion into a mk2 8v. Was looking at the 2.0 16v conversion but am too worried about the wiring aspect. Conversion will be carried out on a budget (if I had the money it would be a 20v t but I don't) I am relatively competent with mechanics but unsure about engine swaps. VW's are a bit different to Mini's
Thought I would test the knowledge and see if anyone has done one of these.
1. Which is the easiest conversion?
2. What sticky points are there on the 8v conversion?
3. Any special parts needed?
4. Will it hook up to the original wiring?
5. How easy is it to tune?
6. Is it really worth it?

i just dropped a 2e from a mk3 8v gti in mine, mines a digi engine code so i just used the 2e block and everything else from the mk 2, i.e head gearbox etc etc
sticky points is the engine is now abt 16mm higher but hasnt caused me any problems
didnt use any special parts although did use an up graded clutch
on a diigi it all wires up to original wiring
as for tuning im still waiting to do that and for is it worth it, i would say yes as torque is improved greatly, top end is only improved a little though

thinkiing of doing this conversion using digi engine, just wondering how much power it puts out without any mods??

2.0 16v on original k-jet injection would be fairly cheap and easy to do.

The conversion is easy if you can use a spanner and enjoy getting oily.. :rolleyes:
Today I am doing a 2.0 conversion on my 89 mk2 16v with a 6a engine from an audi 80 and hopefully she will be running by bedtime!!
It is a weekend job,assuming you spend one day removing previous engine (and broken studs, sheared bolts and those son-of-satan vw hose clamps :angry:)
Apart from 3 new engine mounts (ouch) it will have cost about £150- i paid £70 for the car and £30 for new oil and filters. And a new oil pump. The time consuming bit is swapping mounts etc. (the Audi engines are slightly trickier as they are inline and you have to swap sump,oil pump etc first
