Title: Banded Wheels- illegal or not?
Post by: Si on 27 October 2005, 19:41
Im running my 8v on standard 14" steels, and tbh it looks pants! I want to keep it looking semi-original so was thinking of the idea of getting them banded (like my dad used to back in the day!)
Can i take this job on myself, or is there a company who do it professionally?
Also is it illegal and dangerous? Only want the dish an extra 3" deeper!

Ive got a 1969 Porsche Empi Imp beach buggy with banded wheels on it, 10" x 14" on the back, but it passed MOT, i assume thats because its a classic or custom car?

god knows, was just always sure they were illegal. i suppose if no-one realises they are banded then it'll be fine.

kind of a cut and shut, chop the front lip off the rim, weld an inert in how ever wide you want and weld the lip back. quick bit of turning and jobs a gudun' and you end up with super wide steelies. have you checked out mattig wheels, they make big wide steelies.
