Anyone else have this experience with their mk2? When downshifting and taking my right foot off accelerator my golf backfires, pops and bangs like a group b quattro. My mate with a cupra r recons it sounds cool, i'm a bit concerned if it's doing any damage to engine/exhaust etc.

possibly overfuelling?? :undecided:

Overfueling? how do i solve this?
-
the only way i'd do it is to get it tuned at a vw specialist...but if anyone else knows an easier / cheaper option....
-
Cheers for the advice, think i'll book it in for next week.

I'm sure i remember someone saying this was something to do with the timing.... Either way getting it booked in and checked out, should sort it.

I assume it is an Injection engine? Could be the timing slightly out, or it could be over fueling. I would of thought it would be under fueling though, have you put a new air filter on? K&N? Maybe your air/fuel meter is causing the fuel to run weaker?

This is overfuelling and / or timing.
