hi ppl i have a 88mk2 golf gti but im having problems trying to get the bonnet to close and lock in, i have to bounce on it about 5times quite hard for it to lock into the catch i think, any one got any ideas how to fix this??

open the bonnet & check the latch spring hasn't broken, if you look at the catch area you should see the catch spring back when you release the pull handle.

If that dont help look at the pin on the bonnet, there is a nut which you can loosen which allows you to loosen the pin slightly.  I had to loosen mine a fair bit when I replaced the bonnet pin :)

make sure its solid also any play can stop it catching right, even 1 rivet missing or loose can effect it.

I had this problem, lift the bonnet and spray WD40 on the bonnet lock mech. Then get a screwdriver or sumthing to loosen the lock. Should work, if not it shouldnt cost too much for another lock?!  :smiley:
