As the title says, I'm having this "rattling" noise which seems to be coming from the floor in the driver area. It doesn't happen all the time, which is annoying in itself because it makes it harder to pinpoint, but when it does happen, it's mainly on bad roads or potholes. It feels like two loose panels bumping against each other when the vibration is strong enough.
For some reason, it seems to be doing it less when the car has just started and more when it's warmed up.
It's not frequent or bad enough to go straight to the dealer, so I was going to wait until the first service to ask, but I was wondering if anyone else has had the same problem.
From what I can tell, it doesn't seem to be coming from inside the car.

Rattles can be very difficult to pinpoint. You are 99% sure it's coming from a particular location and it turns out to be something entirely different.
A common one I've seen reported is the centre console. It would be worth checking this.... slide both front seats forward as far they will go and at the bottom of the centre console at the rear, there is a bolt/screw on either side (below the armrest, near the carpet). I think these screws and/or the covers over them are prone to working loose.

Loose exhaust hangers?
Or is it definitely coming from inside the cabin?

I had a similar rattle and the cause was the small clips at the end of the seat rail. The rail which the front seats slide back and forth on has a tiny clip on the end of it and mine was loose and rattling, solved it with some black electrical tape but both of the clips were loose and rattling. You could also insert a small piece of paper to stop the clip from moving that would work too.

Thanks, I will definitely take a look. It sounds like two plates, one metal and one plastic, touching each other, but as I said it's really annoying because it doesn't do it all the time and it rarely does it when the car has just started (which could have something to do with metal expanding due to heat, but that's a wild guess).

I'm tempted to say it's definitely coming from outside the cabin, but I could be wrong.
Sometimes, when it's more noticeable, I almost feel like a tiny vibration under my feet, indicating that something around that area is definitely moving more than it should.

I'll take a look, thanks. I'd be surprised if those clips could make a loud enough rattle that can be heard at 70 mph or more, also given than the GTI is not the most soundproofed car.

It may be coming from here actually, the right one can easily be moved and it does make a similar noise.
