Title: Notchy gear change
Post by: Klanky on 27 July 2026, 16:26
i have a 1990 Mk2. GTI 8V. it goes pretty well other than for a couple of minor niggles, one being a mystery power drain (more of that later) but the main issue I have at the moment is a very notchy and approximate gear change, especially on hot days.
1st to 2nd in particular is slow and baulky but the other gears are also not exactly slick.
Am i right in thinking that this could be the bushes at the bottom of the stick?
And secondly can anyone recommend a decent Mk2 restoration / repair company in the Cheshire area?
Thanks in advance.

You have https://www.awesomegti.com/contact-us/ they might no longer be at the 'resto' level but could probably point you in the right direction.
