ive got a 86 mk1 golf gti cabriolet - 1800 8v k-jet engine.
ive also now got an 89 scirocco scala 1800 8v k-jet engine
i would expect the scirocco to out perform the golf slightlydue to weight and aerodynamics, however the scirocco makes the golf look like a poorly 1300. the golf runs and drivesfine other than an initial idle problem when cold, can anybody think of why the golf is so slow? :undecided:

:undecided: It shouldn't be that much slower than your scirocco
Has it had a recent tune?
-
dont forget the cab heavier than your scirocco by quite a bit! and it may just need a general tune up!
-
Check the cam and ign timing, make sure there are no binding brakes and you are getting full throttle.
Steve.

Hi and welcome
Could be a million things - what's your fuel consumption like and have you noticed anything other than slug performance?
-
Has it had a recent tune?
Nope, didn't think you could tune much on a fuel injected engine?

Fuel consumption is fantastic!
And mk1, I wouldn't know how to check the cam and ignition timing!!! I'm used to aircooled stuff!

If the consumption is fantastic - get the bugger tuned. I bet it's not set up right.

mine ran like a dream when i got it tuned.

mine runs slow too drinks petrol and smells of it bad when i first start it in the morning also followed by loads of smoke out the back

Shouldn't be much slower than the Scirocco. I had a mk1 Scirocco storm, same engine, and with a few minor tweaks I can honestly say that my cabrio would outrun that with no problems at all. Something isn't right
