Title: Leak from cam cover gasket

Hello, I had a service today and the dealer says:

Inspection Notes: Oil leak at back of engine, looks to be coming from cam cover gasket - Investigation time to assess required

Is this a common thing on a 92,000 mile GTI?

Also, could I by confident about asking for the gasket to be fixed? I really want to make one visit and have it fixed, not a diagnostic and then return again when the parts are in.

Garage reported this as a possibility on mine at about the same mileage. I got underneath and  cleaned it all up and left it a while and checked again. Did not appear to have reacurred. Put it down to spillage when refilling oil after service. If it is leaking then sometimes the cam cover can get distorted during removal and require a  new part cover. If the parts are readily available then all can be done in one day.

Difficult to tell clearly but doesn't look like the same place as mine. Been a while since it happened. The oil stain was close to the joint of sump to block and cam cover at the back of the engine.

Quite hard to diagnose without seeing it.
Loads of.places it could be coming from.
As for known issues,
Worth checking its not misdiagnosed as theres a sensor on the front of the engine that's o ring leaks as it not a great seal from new and makes it look like the gasket is leaking as it seeps round.
The PCV pipe at the rear its joint also are know to look like the cover as well as the pcv valve itself gasket..
Best get some brake cleaner and spray it on to clean the oil off. Run it a day and see were its coming from.
