Some of you may remember (although I doubt it) the image of Volkswizard, taken when I sold him my ED45. I owned that car for a matter of weeks and it was barely run in, but it never captured my heart and I preferred the ED40 and wasn’t ready to sell it.

The ED40 lasted another 4 years and outlived a 2023 MK8 Golf R, and a 2025 Audi RS3, however, after driving the ED50 for a few hours I made the decision to sell it. A very simple sale to a local enthusiast, so it’s gone to a good home, and the sale was finalised last night. I tried to recreate the image.
I will write another post with my impressions of the ED50 in a few weeks, but all I can say is well done VW. With the performance pack, it is brilliant, but I do occasionally find myself changing the mode to comfort to find it’s already in comfort!

Blimey you are quicker at dumping cars than even Exonian

Ignoring that
accurate observation scathing remark  it begs to be asked, is the fact the ED40 was sold locally anything to do with it being easy to whizz down the road and make an offer to buy it back?? 😁
Joking aside, congrats Paul and let’s see if this one lasts until the ED60 launches.
The 50 looks really good in red. It’s the first Golf in years I’d have a tough dilemma as to which colour I’d prefer but I think Tornado edges it.

Guilty as charged, I’ve been searching for the right next car for the last few years.

Thanks Exonian. No going back to the ED40. ED60 is a scary thought! Who knows. Agree TR is the best colour for the ED50, but I am biased.

Not biased, blessed with the gift of sight, clearly the best colour

Didn't take long to decide you didn't like that thou!
Shame really looks a nice car. Dont think it would fall into the easy to live with Daily all rounder that makes GTI's such great cars imo.

Nice one! Did you opt for the AV or leather steering wheel?

😂 it was a tough decision on whether to chose TR or Reflex Silver for the ED40, but I am glad I went for Silver, however, it was a no brainer for the ED50, as DMG just didn’t really appeal to me.

There were quite a few reasons to sell the ED45 early. It was a lovely car, and probably a better daily than the ED50 with Performance Pack, which is perfectly comfortable for me, but I have quite a high NVH tolerance. DSG was a factor too, I wasn’t ready to give up a manual, but 4 years later I am.

Thanks, when do you pick yours up from the detailed? No brainer to go for the AV, as the ED40 had one, and it was really durable imo. I miss the 12 o’clock marker in the ED50, but the wheel has a lovely feel.

Nice! I’m trying to find the part number for the av wheel or a car that has one fitted from factory so I can get one bought but no joy yet unfortunately,
