Hi,
Have just tryed to get my Mk2 GTi going but it just won't start, it hasn't had a proper drive for a while as I've been in and out of the country.
When I turn the key the starter turns and it sort of 'chuggs' which I assume indicates that it's getting fuel and sparking (not proved) but nothing else (It was working fine a couple of days ago).
I need to get this sorted out at the weekend when I get back. Does anyone have any suggestions of what I need to look at?
Thanx in advance.

Check you have fuel. Check the fuel pump primes when you turn the ignition. What engine is it?

I had filled up just a few days ago, but it was very empty before I filled up.
It's the 1.8 16v engine.

if you have had the same bad weather as me over the last couple of days then that could be your answer. i hadn't ran my golf for nearly a week when i tryed to start it yesterday the moisture had got in and it was a pain in the arse to start got it going eventualy and it coughed and spluttered for a minuit till it dryed out try some wd-40 on your dizzy cap and leads then try again. mine was turning over for about 10 secs befofe it actually fired up. Hope thats been of some help to you
