Title: Arch fittings for 19's
Post by: flipflops on 14 April 2026, 16:45
Hi All, what are those little arch bits which come on 19's and not 18's? please?

That's exactly what they are, little arch bits.

Nothing more nothing less.

Some would have you believe that it's something to do with width regulations but that seems absurd to me. I have them on mine and if you seriously believe these things do anything other than well just be there then that's up to you.

Weird huh!! I can't work out what they do, other than as you say, be there :)

I don’t know why there needed as the tyres don’t stick out past the arch on our golf r with 19 on they are only stuck on but left them there

Some random EU regulation. A bit like straight bananas.

at first I found them puzzling but now they grew on me, i kind of like the looks of them and that they are unique to the 19'' wheels.  one thing i noticed, they collect very tiny pieces of sand which you can clean using a brush.  could that be a use for them?

They’re not unique to the Golf either, the up! GTI and a few other models with fractionally wider wheels than the cooking versions also sport similar winglets

Yes, the previous generation (the 6c) Polo GTI with standard 7.5J wide alloys had similar winglets. If the first owner went for the alternative factory optional alloy wheels which were a 7J alloy, you didn’t get the winglets.

65 Euro for two pieces of plastic.

They should be embarrassed to charge that.

If they're not already on the car I wouldn't bother. They're only fitted to satisfy some random EU regulation.
