Title: Replacement dipstick
Post by: Big Col on 04 April 2026, 10:49
Hello,

In a moment of clumsiness I've broken the original plastic dipstick. d'oh.
Any advice on a replacement?

I see items online at £100+ which i dont really fancy paying for a dipstick, any more reasonably priced recommendations?

Or better just to buy another standard plastic one, the new plastic won't be aged and brittle?

I don't think they are that expensive from the dealer.
Remember to always remove them when the engine is warm.

This is the one I bought, it was £16 when I bought it though...

Same here - the little tabs are way too brittle and easy to break off, both of my sticks were/are very hard to pull out even when warm.  To me the yellow plastic has changed compared to our other VW's with the orangey coloured plastic dipsticks.

The plastic probably goes brittle over time due to heat cycles.

The tabs broke off mine too.

Broke on eof the tabs off mine yesterday. Ordered a genuine from from AKS for £27 delivered. My eye was briefly drawn to the fancy alloy ones at £70-ish, but I had a word with myself and went sensible.
