Title: New software direct button for speed limit warning off
Post by: CarbonGTD on 20 February 2026, 18:59
So the latest over-air software update (taken this wk) in my 8.5 GTI 265 has brought with it a welcome new 'sticky key' for the speed limit warning which now sits on top of the main screen permanently (meaning I no longer have to go into the subscreen to switch it off every time I start the car).  Winner.

The catch is, there still isn't one for lane assist...

One step at a time I suppose! At least that’s progress.. maybe by the time I get my CS they’ll have one for lane assist too!

What other over the air updates have you had? I've never set up we connect so I haven't had any on my 8.5.

I have lane assist in my 8.5 set to remember the last state the button was in (OFF). Can be set using OBDeleven or Carista.

Have a Cupra Terramar which looks like the same screen to the Golfs, but with a Cupra O/S, and there is a pull down from top of the screen where you have lane assist, speed warning and attention tracker (camera follows your eyes) which you have option to cancel as a pre-flight activity.

Because its a pull down this allows for there to be a row of permanent shortcuts also. Think Cupra have done really good job on the O/S as no need to go into any menus for anything its all on front screen and the pull down option is really good addition to expand the shortcuts options.

Not ever sat in a MK8.5 Golf, so does that not have the pull down option also?

Another nice touch is that the buttons for seat heating and rear window heating etc are made to look like buttons, so you pick them out more readily.

On the subject of OTA updates, has anyone else with a MK8.5 ever gotten an OTA? I've my car a year now and I'm pretty sure I've never got one. I'm comparing the SW versions on the infotainment screen from a photo I took when the car was new to now and the only differences I have are the NAV and radio database versions. Everything else is the same as it was on day one. It would be great to get that shortcut for turning off the speed warnings but my car doesn't have that.

Its odd, because my previous MK8 seemed to get an OTA update every other week

This is what I have now:

Yes, the 8 and 8.5 golf have the same menu that pulls down from the top of the screen.

It's my cars fourth Birthday today and I've literally just located that shortcut menu.
I genuinely can't think of a single to reason to use it. Ever.

Yeah, I don’t use it either. I think maybe once I used it to turn down the screen brightness or something?!, but I’m not sure it adjusted what I wanted it too, essentially I forgot all about it until I saw this thread!

Just out of interest what is the need for accessing the HK? Are you changing the settings regularly?
I set mine up years ago and haven't fiddled with that either, having said that the last update has reset everything but I'm not even sure I can tell any difference, maybe my ears are four years more scrambled.

Not to mess with the equaliser, but to select the different profiles as I swap between listening to say Radio4 vs playing heavy music.

I don't need massive bass for the world at one, but listening to d&b I certainly do and even something like classic metal doesn't sound good on either of those modes, so another for that.

There's the four (??) mode buttons - one with a mic icon, one with a music icon, one with a palm tree and one with a lightning bolt... four modes.

And these modes are independent to the equaliser.

Yes no VW documentation about this and HK also won't provide it either.... sh*theads

Right O, Fred. Understood. I'll have a mess around next time I'm waiting around somewhere.

Has the sticky key update also been sent to the mk8?
