For a point of reference maybe it’ll be good for an Edition 50 order thread.
Leave the chatter for other threads, only actual orders/purchases in here please.
Spec, price, any discounts, dealer if you wish and country where the car was ordered.
Anything else directly relevant such as advised wait times might also be useful to others.

-
Just ordered moss green with pp,area view, hk etc
Also was told by another dealer that there will only be 300. How true is this ?
Has anyone else got a discount got 2k off mine.
-
This to me, is the jealous of those who have ordered the ED50 thread, i know who to point my green eyes at now!
Can see me later in year ED50 spotting and making similar aspersions, :)
Think we be looking to trade in present Golf R in 3 years as hits ten years, so be interesting to see where these are at in price, so remember to order all the goodies for us looking down the road though think it will always be just outside what willing to pay and likely talk self into a Black Edition R for likely less ££
Have always been in camp of if you can genuinely afford it, and want it, you buy it so genuinely happy for those in position to and like Exonian looking forward to seeing them delivered.
-

I idly checked DTD today to see if they included Ed 50 only to find they currently list only EVs on their VW section.
I think this means something significant for the future more generally……. but I don’t know what!

They told a friend of mine last week that the usual models would be back up on the site within a couple of weeks. I think they are just finalising a new VW dealer partner following Hayselden's demise.
-
Looking to place an order in the coming days ,has anyone managed to get a discount ,anybody recommend a dealer. When are you expecting your cars to be delivered?
-
Ordered mine in Belgium on 31/12/25.
Ordered it without PP as I was afraid it would be to harsh for daily use.
It wasn't until last friday, when the first online reviews came, and all of them were very clear that the PP is a must and it doesn't compromise the comfort much.
I rang the dealer on saturday to try to change my order to include the PP.
He said he couldn't change it anymore, as it was allready planned in the factory.
On monday I got a call back that there still was a small chance it could be done by the Belgian importer, but I shouldn't get my hopes up to high. He mailed me a new order, I signed it and mailed it back to the dealer. He would contact me on tuesday to let me know if the importer was successfull.
Didn't hear him on tuesday and couldn't reach him today, so in my mind I allready gave up.
Untill five minutes ago: got a call from the dealer and the importer has managed to change my car to a PP
Only slight disadvantage is that they couldn't tell me if the deliverydate would be a little later, but I can live with that.
-
It looks like it's gonna be a limited run afterall. In Belgium and Germany the Edition 50 can't be configurated / ordered anymore.
Perhaps only temporary?...

Anyone had any further updates regarding the build/delivery dates?
-
Nothing just checked with dealership today and yet to be assigned a build date.
-
My order isn’t even coming up on my VW id when I log in, its just asking for a vin number that I don’t have  but I did get an email saying the the factory has received my order but I don’t have a build date or anything else yet, bound to be the next few days surely,
-
I have ordered one yesterday. The salesman called me today saying that the predicted production week is 13 or 14.
-
Epic that’s fast! I’m hoping they just do a run and build all 1000 for the uk and ship them all out for the same time,

That number is confirmed?
In Portugal we had 15. Spain had 325, confirmed by VW Spain. France had 50 according to the media.
-
I placed an order on the 21 Feb. Moss green,. performance pack with the 19" Warmenau in black. I.e the performance pack as is. Pretty standard order.
Today the dealer phoned me and said that VW are not allowing that configuration of wheels, and that VW have given no reason as to why. They were prompting me to change wheels so the build could go ahead and that I could choose the diamond cut ones instead. I told them that seems wrong and will wait to see if VW correct themselves.
Has anyone else had this? Feels like a kick to not be offered them given it's all over their press materials for this edition.
Also had the £1000 offer from my dealer.
-
I saw your post earlier via Volkswizard , I also had similar spec ordered here in Ireland and would also feel aggrieved if I couldn't order the black option wheel.
I contacted my dealer re above and have yet to hear anything back. I don't know how this is the case as the black option wheel was used as the flagship model on launch of car. Seems bizarre
-
Perhaps they are running short and have stock of the others.
-
My guess is they don’t have enough sets of them wheels and want to get all the 1000 and it has been confirmed for the uk, apparently they are or could be trying to get all the uk cars over or at least th en majority of them for the launch in late April/may and have them all at the dealerships ready for handover all at the same time
-
Weird. I order mine on the 24th os February with the Performance Pack (PR Code WPG) and the black Warmenau Wheels (PR Code C7M).
With the newest conflict in the Middle East are production delays expected? Many electronic components come from Asia. If ships avoid the Suez Canal, deliveries are delayed one to two weeks.

Hi
I ordered a Clubsport with Warmenau Diamond Cut wheels in September and it was originally quoted as due into dealer early February. As yet I still don’t even have a build date confirmation. Dealer claims the delay is due to the wheels being unavailable? Not sure I actually believe that though 🤔
-
That’s a hell of a wait! Did you get the email saying the factory has your order and getting things ready and looking out parts ect..?
-
Yeah I have an online “brochure” that states order is with the factory and parts are being checked. This hasn’t changed for sometime. The dealer emails every few weeks to there’s no change in the status. I’m not stressing about it I’m sure it will be worth the wait 🤔
-
Usually 8-10 weeks from receiving that email the car is with the dealership but yeah definitely be worth the wait
-

You can have our wheels as we ordered performance pack with the queenstown red glaze wheel

Has anyone else been contacted regarding anything needing changed?

No

Update on build week order date January 15th or see accepted 16th and build week commencing 20
Week 20 is the predicted week or is the confirmed one?
In a German forum I’ve read that Volkswagen will produce 2900 Edition 50 units. I assume that all these units will de produced in a small “time frame”. LHD and RHD versions probably are not produced in the same batch… Mine was ordered (at the dealer) in the 24th of February and according to my latest info it will be produced before yours…

I am guessing this is a prediction build week but vw customer service said it has been allocated build week 20, im just going to presume 1st week in June before I get it
-
Has anyone else been contacted regarding anything needing changed?
Spoke to my dealership again this morning, I was told that they have spoken to the VW Sales office and that there is no way to have the Warmenau black wheels with the PP. Looks like they have updated the configurator now to reflect this.
Suppose I missed out and they have stock issues, so will be going with the Estoril instead.
-
So if anyone were to order one now with the performance package they won’t get the black forged alloys and need to choose a different set? Or keep the original red finish ones? Definitely sounds like they are low on stock , they should stop them alloys from being aloud on the clubsports and R till the ED50 is out, being a special edition and wanting it launched in may/june

Bumper option

What do the two look like what’s the differences
-
There is no difference aside from the paint colour! I’ve no idea why it’s called out like that in the configurator and clearly VW don’t know either. It’s just another configurator oddity.
-
I thought it looked identical it is why I asked the question
Thank you for explaining better than Vw
-
Ordered 19/03/26.
Tornado Red
Performance pack.
Pan roof.
HK audio.
Alcantara wheel.
The PP is forcing the tyres at an additional cost, the dealer is querying VW (Ireland) on this but I’m not hopeful. Probably will be a case of computer says no! I’d be interested in any other Irish buyers on here how they’ve got on in this regard.
-
Has anybody received a confirmed build week yet? Seen someone with BW14 that’s potentially 10 days away
-
Irish Order here I got confirmed build week yesterday of week 17.
Joe regarding your order did you have any luck discount wise as I'm starting to become a little
Skeptical re the amount Vw Ireland are actually importing. I'm hearing of a few different dealers with edition 50's ordered to stock. If this is the case you'd definitely be wanting a discount of some sort.
Re the tyres I had no luck but if you do have I'd be definitely following suit.
-
Wow, seems like there's plenty of money swilling about on the Emerald Isle. Not only is it thirty grand more expensive than in the UK but it seems to have positively encouraged you all to order.
Good work, more power to you.

There definitely seems to be more of them available than was initially thought. My dealer said he's had an allocation of 5. I expect the larger dealers in Dublin could have several more than this!
Re discounts, well, I am trading in a car and in my experience, when a trade-in is involved, the focus is on the overall "cost to change" rather than discounts. So e.g. new car is priced at 60k, trade in offer on old car is 25k... 35k cost to change. Whether that's really 23k for your old car and 2k discount, or 24k for old car and 1k discount, who knows!
It's obviously much clearer when no trade in is involved. In my experience the discount even then tends to be small, less than 2k maybe.
-

This isn't news. All cars, well particularly high performance, emission-producing ICE cars, are very expensive in Ireland. It's not just the Golf! The Government hit them hard with carbon emission linked taxation.
And the gap is more like 20k, not 30k. But yes, still very significant. Thats how it is here unfortunately, being a car enthusiast in Ireland is an expensive business.
-
Yes I'm similar to yourself re trading in, they usually put it on to take off.
-

Can you have a word with your dealer and ask them to query the tyres too? There's no justification for them charging extra for them when they're apparently included with the PP in other markets. If a few of us raise the issue, it may help!
-
I will definitely, that would be a nice saving because as it stands I'll re bringing car to Tyre centre soon after collection to replace with road tyres.

TBH I think you'll be fine on the semi-slicks. I won't be rushing to change them off the car anyway. I'll want to drive on them for a while and see how they feel, particularly in the summer months anyway. I might feel differently in the winter.
-
Nice spec Joe, didn’t think you would be changing from the 8.5! Thinking about it for a while or just a snap decision?
Was toying with it myself once or twice but I am happy with the R and finding it hard to justify shelling out big money on a performance Golf again, given the prices here.
I notice VW Ireland an dealers seem to be pushing advertising of the ED50.

I know! I didn’t think I’d do it either! Ah I was day dreaming on the configurator since they launched, will I won’t I. I had ruled it out for the most part, particularly when I heard that they’d all “sold out” so I was happy then that, oh well, I missed the boat. But then the dealers got in touch a couple of weeks ago to tell me they’d secured a few more slots. So the hamster wheel started turning.
I’ve always hankered for an “Edition” GTI so I said this is now or never!

I think that you are talking about me. I ordered the car on the 24th of February. In the next day the salesman called me and told me that according to the importer, car should be built in week 13/14.
On the 9th of March I received a message from him with the information that the order has been confirmed. He told me that once he got news he would tell me something and I haven't heard from him since.

When did you ordered yours?
How do you plan to take care of yout Edition 50? When not using mine I want to keep it in a garage. I want a cover for it. Volkswagen doesn't have one in their accessories catalogue. Does anyone have any recommendations for a good quality cover?
What about "Tyre savers"? Something like this:
There are so much that I don't know what to choose...
-
Unless you plan on never driving it, there’s no need for any of that stuff. In fact you might do more harm than good putting a cover on it. You’re fortunate to have a garage, keeping any car in from the winter elements is good.

Order placed January 27th

Life is more than cars and there is a strong possibility that I need to store my Edition 50 for 5-6 months.
During storage, there are four aspects that concern me: battery, body, fuel, and tyres. I have been researching how to properly care for these components.
Battery is easy, a battery charger. CTEK is a good choice.
Fuel, the tank should be full of petrol to avoid condensation inside and a petrol stabilizer I think is a good idea, like this one from Liqui Moly:
https://www.liqui-moly.com/en/gb/petrol-stabilizer-p000050.html#21646
Tyres one can also overinflate the tyres for storage, but a "tyre saver" should help.
Finally body. Before putting a cover the car needs to be washed, otherwise the cover can damage the paint. The car will be in a garage, but a cover will prevent dust to settle in the paint. There are lots of covers on the market and I don't know what to buy. I would like to have a cover with a soft cloth in contact with the paint, not a "plastic" one.
Order placed January 27th
So you are receiving the build week at least four weeks in advance. I think that is the normal "time frame".

Received my ‘Build Complete’ email confirmation today 😊
-
Fellow Irish members, I’ve had it confirmed by VW via my dealer that the extra cost for the semi-slick tyres in the configurator is a mistake. The tyres are included “free” in the performance pack.
-
Hi Paul and Garwen,
What were your original build dates??
Cheers
-
By backreading the thread, Paul ordered on 16.01 and Garwin left a deposit in the dealer on 25.05 and called the dealer on 13.01 to confirm the order.
-
I placed my order for a Dark Moss Green Edition 50 with most of the bells and whistles expect pan roof and leather seats in early Feb. I asked my dealer for a build week in early March and he said its week 26, but could be sooner. The VW tracker at some point in the last few weeks has moved to step 2 - your order is with our factory.
I hope it comes slightly early as I've booked A/L in mid August for a car trip around Scotland for a car I yet don't have... It'll still need to be run in and oil changed too before I can drive it freely.
I going to take the car on many trips and drive it as intended. So I've been looking at getting PPF to protect the paintwork, but the cost is about 4k. By the time you add in the initial detailing to prep for the PPF and maybe ceramic coating you could easily get to 5k, or just shy of 10% of the value of the car. Not sure If I should go down the PPF route or just leave it completely. Any thoughts?

I have read here that the Akrapovič exhaust, the Black Warmenau wheels and the rear spoiler were causing delays.
Regarding your car, I don't like PPF. I would apply only a ceramic coating.
I understand the care for your car, I do the same but that oil change that you mention, if it is performed after the break in periof I think it is a waste of money. I would do what VW says in the first 1500 km and then enjoy the car.
Yeah. It’s the build date I was asking about, not the date of order. Cheers.
Sorry, I didn't read well your message :P

If you’re particular about your paintwork and want to keep it looking as pristine as possible, then I would strongly recommend PPF. You don’t need to do the entire car though. The high impact areas are sufficient - so the front bumper and bonnet primarily. A good ceramic coating will also make it much easier to keep on top of the cleaning.
-
So that’s 2 people that’s gotten an email saying there car has been built? Did you get a build week email or did you just get an email saying that the car was built? Also what is the spec that you both configured? Thanks

My initial email from VW in early Feb confirmed a build week in late May. I didn’t receive any further emails until yesterday. My dealer has kept me updated every few weeks and they confirm BW 13 around late February. Your dealer is the best source of information. Hope everyone hears soon.
-
Hi Paul, really appreciate that. I’m not going to pester the dealer as in zero rush but just wanted to see if the date had moved. Make sure you get some photos uploaded when it comes! 👍👍

Latest email from the dealer the car is actually in the dock in the uk and will be at the dealers within 2 weeks
Whoooooop whoooooop
-
Great news Garwen! Did you get a confirmation for a build week email or did you just hear nothing till now and have a surprise  can’t wait to see some pics when you get it!
-
Just SURPRISE it’s been built lol
-
Yes, the black Warmenau wheels are indeed the bottleneck for production. I've been following the Germany forum, and from approx. page 100 onwards you can see many Germany and other EU customers have had delays due to the Black Warmenau wheels. It's a rather strange bottleneck because it's the default option on the PP car, and on the Black Edition Golf R so you would believe they have sufficient stock. In any case, I ordered with the sliver Warmenau wheels and had it double checked with the dealer - I didn't want the car to come with Black Warmenau wheels by mistake.
I only really considered about lots of stone chips, which would be evidence on a green car. Still debating it, it's a lot of money. It'll either PPF the whole car, or no PPF rather than having parts done so it won't be visible.
Congrats Garwen! You're probably part of the very first UK customers getting the car!
-
Can you share that German forum?
I thought that the black Warmenau wheels were “simpler” to produce than the silver/black ones…

It's this forum:
https://www.motor-talk.de/forum/gti-50-jahre-jubilaeumsmodell-2026-t8175078.html?page=168
I believe this is the German Pistonheads like forum, it's very active.

The 2 cars that are in the uk, your dealership should have the number plaques already so I’d be asking what numbers you have received id guess 1&2

Correct. It was €1400 approx. Car is a bargain now

Nice. What spec did you go for? Be sure to post pics.
-
Probably gonna disappoint as I DID NOT spec the PP. I couldn’t justify it at an already premium price point. I ain’t gonna be talking it on a track and I think the ride is gonna feel great either way. Tornado red, red glaze QT, area view, HK, and AV steering wheel. Debated the pano but went agaisnt it. My previous car (S3 saloon) I had the pano, and whilst good for the visuals I rarely used it, and as the ED50 has the black roof, this was enough for me :) hopefully have some nice pics after detailing in a week or two ☺️🙏

Sounds lovely! Yep, the PP is a difficult one to justify. I dare you to look at what it costs to spec here in Ireland…
Looking forward to the pics!

I just looked, that’s unreal 🤯 I don’t understand how the prices vary so dramatically

We get a right seeing to over here I’m afraid! High taxes on cars, particularly anything performance that doesn’t come with batteries

Has anyone had any update regarding build dates or anything yet…? I was told to wait till the 1st of may for the system to be “most up to date” but I am inpatient, and I’m still waiting to hear back from my dealer for anything regarding what’s the hold up with a confirmed build date, because if it was alloys holding it up I’d happily change to get the car quicker,

I heard from my dealer that delays are specification dependent but we did not talk details. My car did not leave Wolfsburg for 17 days and I am hoping it was linked to my Black Warmenau wheel choice.

That’s a shame King Monkey. Did you ever get a confirmed build week? Looking on Autotrader, there are some new GTIs with over 15% discount, so I get your decision. Did you get your deposit back?

Cheers. Build week is in June. Not bothered if I get the deposit back tbh. The longer I thought, the less it made sense for me. The 45 is hands down the best GTI ever had but I find the ride harsh enough in this.

There was £1000 discount available for a very short period if you were on the button like me 🤣 I have to say, there is a lot of debating (whining) about the lack of discount on the ED50. This is a £50K vehicle, the APR is a lot lower than the other more heavily discounted GTIs, when you add of all this up, you are probably debating about a couple of grand here or there. Which, for a £50K car is not a lot. And when you include what options DCC etc this car already has, and the fact it is a special edition, I really don’t understand the frustration. If you like the car and can afford it, pay the premium, if you don’t wanna, then don’t, but I’m not sure VW can really be targeted. It is what it is :)
-
Not sure anyone was targeting VW. Everyone has their own financial situation so a couple of grand being neither here or there isn’t relevant imo. But what do I know.
Could have got one, decided not to. Enjoy yours.
-
Yea get that, and certainly not having a go at you. A couple of grand is a couple of grand and better in our pockets than the corporate giants, it just seems ‘value for money’ whatever that is seems to dominate a lot of the chats surrounding the ED50, which like you say is kinda by the by. Either you get it or you don’t. There are a lot of positives around this car but rarely talked about.
Thanks, I’m looking forward to it. Last golf I had was the Mk5 GT sport which I loved, previous car in UK was 2018 S3 saloon which I also loved, so let’s see. I’d have probly went S3 again but Audi are just not quite what they weren’t terms of looks for me.

At the end of the day, it's just another variation of the Golf and after years of buying performance golfs with great discounts, no way could I buy this without one. I'd rather have that couple of grand in my pocket than watch it burn away instantly on deprecation. I'm just going to keep an eye of they don't sell that well and see if decent discounts become available.

Considering you’re already in an 8.5 clubsport, I can understand the rationale. I wouldn’t change from that for any amount of discount personally. But as someone coming into the market fresh like me, I think the lack of whatever discount may or may not be is kinda nor here nor there.

Contacted by dealer today and my Edition 50 has been built and I have my Vin number, hopeful it makes the boat to Ireland sooner rather than later!!!!!

Oh, great news!! I've not even heard word of a build week yet. I haven't bothered chasing it up either though.

Hey Donster, were you long waiting for a confirmed build-week, once you placed your order? I'm 7 weeks since placing an order and zero movement since. No build week. Not a great sign...
-
I ordered end of Jan/Earky Feb and didn't receive a build week until March 19th, so I wouldn't be too
Concerned as of yet Joe. That's semi-slick discount also worked a treat, an update had been sent from Hq for all ordered and I can see configurator now reflects this. Good work by yourself.

Ah good to know, thanks! It's unusual though, as I've bought quite a few new VW's and I'd usually have a BW within a couple of weeks.
Yeah, great to get that tyres query sorted alright. I'm honestly not sure it would ever have been corrected only for me (and possibly 1-2 other people) queried it.

Finally picked up my ED50 from the detailer, I love it. Taking it easy for the first 1000miles or so though, but can defo feel its potential.
One question I have. When the ignition is on but not the engine, I get an amber warning indication come up after about 15 seconds saying the 12V battery is being discharged, please start the engine. Is this normal? I’ve asked the dealer and they said it’s normal as it’s just telling you it’s running off the battery. It kinda makes sense but I’m also always paranoid about these things. Any other 8.5 owners get this message?
Also couple of drives a feel like the car rumbles along abit on the DCC, almost like driving over micro bumps if that makes sense. I need to test it a bit more though cos it’s not all the time.
-
I’ve just seen there is a whole other new thread on the battery issue lol 🤣🤦🏼♂️
-
What setting have you the DCC in? Try the lowest (softest) setting. They're definitely jittery if set all the way to sport.
-
Had it in comfort but I think I need to test it out a bit more, was maybe only on a certain road. It defo grabbed my attention though. Will monitor though and have a play with the different settings.

Hey garwen, this is now my car delivery is Tuesday/Wednesday next week number 19  I’ve ordered the AV steering wheel and will be putting the black warmenau’s on for summer and the red alloys will be winter wheels,
Apologies for going off topic, but something to consider with your plan to run the red / black Queenstown alloys on your car during the winter months;
- The red / black Queenstown alloys are diamond cut (the finish on the red sections is described as a red glaze by VW - essentially a red tinted lacquer over the diamond cut sections). The finish on diamond cut alloys isn’t renowned for good durability when subjected to winter road conditions (road salt, grit, snow, slush) and they often succumb to unsightly white worm corrosion.
- To get rid of white worm corrosion requires a professional refurb which probably costs in the region of £125 + VAT per wheel these days, and AFAIK not all alloy wheel refurb companies will do the colour tinted lacquer finish.
The black Warmenau’s have a painted / powder coated finish which is highly durable and should be able to withstand winter road use without issue. If I had a two sets of alloys - one set with a diamond cut finish and the other with a painted / powder coated finish - I know which I would fit for winter use and it wouldn’t be the diamond cut set.
As a matter of interest, many aftermarket alloy wheel retailers will include a set of filters on their websites to help narrow down the search criteria. If one of those filters is ‘winter use’ then it’s highly unlikely any selection of alloys intended for winter use will include diamond cut wheels because of the poor durability of finish when compared to alloys with a painted / powder coated finish.
-

Out of interest did you buy the wheels separately via the dealer or elsewhere? And if you don’t mind me asking how much are they?

Your car looks great Pooksta. Check the tyres pressures, as the tyre pressures recommended by VW are to optimise efficiency rather than optimising ride comfort and handling.

Congrats Mr edition 50.
Joe now that you've seen the car in the flesh are you under or overwhelmed or what are your thoughts. Any further information gained from Vw Ireland relating to number of vehicles they hope to
Bring into Ireland.

Donster, the car was fantastic looking to be fair. The red paintwork really stood out, TR is such a great colour, you wouldn't lose it in a carpark! The black Warmanaus really set it off too, they work well with the red brake calipers. The Akra exhaust really sets off the rear end too, looks mega, even if it doesn't sound much different to the standard exhaust.
They gave me the keys too and I sat into it and started it up. The Alcantara wheel is very nice. I'm a little on the fence to be honest on the seats, I think the seats in my current car are arguably as nice - and maybe nicer in some respects! E.g. my CS seats are almost all the "art velours" material whereas on the 50, the seat base and most of the seat back are a hard scratchy fabric, albeit with the distinctive "50" pattern.
They've also done some other strange things in the interior. They seem to have given it the "Black" treatment - the bits that are bright silver on the standard GTI (steering wheel trim, interior door handles) are all black or very dark grey. But then the main piece of trim that runs across the dash and into the door cards is silver, whereas thats a dark "carbon effect" grey on the standard car!
Overall, very nice, but was I really blown away? No. But I'm too spoiled, my current 8.5 is so fresh and pristine. I parked right next to the 50 and my own car was getting as much attention as the 50 was.
As for asking questions, the stand was being run by a group of young women from the marketing dept in VW Ireland, they were sound and very accommodating but they've no more insight into the car's availability than I have. They did say it's been very popular though, lots of them sold / on order.

Here is my own car right next to it.

Your car looks fab Joe, I love the paint and wheel combo. Must have been a tough decision to order the ED50.
-
Great to hear Joe I can see your point re your position coming from a clubsport, mine is a lot different going back to GTIs from years of family wagons aka Allspace Tiguans. Good to see one with performance pack on anyway and I'd say in your case the true difference will be when driving.

Rest assured, coming from the Tiguan’s etc, you will be blown away!

Thanks Paul
Yeah the current car is so nice, it doesn’t make any logical sense to change it. But I justified it to myself somehow. I’ve been in GTI’s for 20 years and I always really wanted an “edition” model but the timing was never right on previous occasions. And seeing as this could be the last ICE Edition GTI, I said it’s now or never.

Congrats to all picking up their brand new shiny Edition 50s.
Pooksta - The darken taillights and badge on the Tornado Red looking cracking, as does the alcantara steering wheel! What did you get done detailing wise?
Garwen - has your dealer called you back to get you plaque added post taking delivery of your car?
What's people's thoughts on running summer (Potenza Race) and Winter 18 inch tyre set up. I don't think you'll be able to extract much in the deep winter days with the semis. I would prefer VW OEM 18s but there was no option when ordered unlike in the EU. Always liked the Golf R's Pretoria alloy. Perhaps I can run 18 inch pretoria in sliver in the winter If I can find some at reasonable price, and the 19s Warmenau on sliver in the summer.
As for my order, it's currently stuck in the gulag. Sept build slot now, but unconfirmed build slot, so likely Oct/Nov Delivery.
-
I would actually consider a winter variant for the edition 50 also, and like yourself I'd like to stick with an oem option, satori's are around awhile now so even
If a decent second hand pair became available it could be an
Option.
I will be using mine daily so it's definitely something to consider in the winter months.
Also re the details has anyone gone the PPF route I was considering it but the detailed I always use doesn't do it, so I'm just considering a G-Tecnik coating all over crystal serum ultra/exov5 and wheels off coated with c5 wheel armour along with smart fabric and glass coating. I'd be interested in people's thoughts on the PPF, have they experience.
-
I’d consider a “winter wheels” option too, and also would much prefer to stay OEM. Genuine OEM wheels from VW are stupid money (I had to replace an Estoril on my MK8, it was painful on the wallet). If I saw a decent used set of Pretoria’s or something along those lines I’d consider them.
@Donster, my current car has the front end PPF’d and some other “high touch” bits such as the B pillars and rear bumper lip. I’ll obviously not have gotten proper value from it given I am trading the car again but if this is a car you see yourself keeping for many years, then I’d strongly recommend it. The coatings can be a great addition but no coating is going to prevent stone chips, minor scratches etc. The front end of my car is as-new. PPF is costly but very effective.
I also had it ceramic coated. Including the glass, which is very effective, water sheets off, I barely need to use the wipers.

front end, mirror caps, black gloss side sills, and the roof all in PPF. Rest of the car Gtechniq ultra with EXO. Only EXO on top of the PPF. First time I’ve had PPF, so need to let it bed in for a month or so and get its first clean under the belt before I can fully judge it. But so far happy with it, barely notice it’s there. I also had the black gloss centre console PPF’d, it’s a cracking job on that. Guess it will take time to fully judge the PPF. Not cheap though so fingers crossed haha

Thanks for the info guys, yes Ive hadG-Techniq coatings for years and you'd even wonder sometimes about them but the stance of the 50 is definitely making me think PPF is a serious option to consider.

I am definitely getting PPF on mine. Only question is front and side or just PPF the whole car. Very much leaning towards the latter, but XPEL official installer next to me is going to be expensive. Plus it seems they only do XPEL ceramic coating rather than G-Tech who everyone raves about. But I’m not going to two separate detailers, that’s a faff.
My spider senses says it about 5k for both.
-
Ouch, but look if your going to keep car what can you do, and Vw current paint is so soft.

I got a call from the salesman on Wednesday saying that my car as the production confirmed for the last week of May, week 22.
There have been delays at the factory and from what I understood, from the 15 that Portugal received, 4 will be built that week, one of them is mine.

Mind detailed can't take car until June 8th and will have for 4/5 days. Great news all the same do.

I'd take it now. 261/2 makes no difference.

July is 6 weeks away lol

For me the new reg would have zero impact on me, I used to care about it but realised I don’t think it has much significance. Those who know, know, any ED50 is hot off the press 😀🚗 I’d want it as soon as, enjoying the summer months in it….

I agree; I also used to like the idea of having one of the first of the new registrations and in the past I’ve taken delivery of new cars on the first day of the new plate. Not any longer though; I’d rather take delivery 2-3 months (or longer) into the registration plate period so it’s less obvious to those who don’t know me that I’ve just got a new car. A private plate would also make it less obvious, but I’ve no desire to ever have a private plate.
-
Yes I agree no one really does care about the plate and it definitely doesn't add anything value wise. My detailer is way until June 8th as on annual leave from end of next week, vehicle probably won't hit dealer until week after next depending, so I'm caught really. I think id rather have car PPF'd prior to hitting the rd. So basically all going well vehicle ready for 12/13th June.
-
Private plates don’t exist in Ireland.
Our registration system “ages” a car very identifiably. Even to a non car person, the age of a car is immediately obvious, much more so than the UK plates I think. A few years ago they decided to split the year, as sales were very heavily biased towards January and tended to fall off a cliff in the 2nd half of the year. So now we have 261-x-xxxx for January to June and 262-x-xxxx for July to Dec. But ultimately it’s only the first 2 numbers that matter.

I think id rather have car PPF'd prior to hitting the rd. So basically all going well vehicle ready for 12/13th June.
I heard you were in contact with Ama in Fb detailing. Did you go with him or someone more local?
-
I spoke with him but logistically it wasn't going to work so I went with RAD which is local to dealer so I can have vehicle done prior to delivery and collect then from dealer. If I was more local to him I definitely would have used him, really nice guy and the PPF he uses looks great. Its expel I've gone for with Gtechniq coatings, the more I thought of it I felt the PPF was a must especially with other forum users comments.

It’s expensive but you won’t regret it.
I know of RAD too, good guy also, I’ve heard great things about him.

Good to hear. Thanks for the advice.

Call from the salesman today our plaque was in the parts department all along. Whooop whooop number 22 now where to put it
-
Car collected yesterday. Love it, and so glad I went for the PP. as for the plaque numbers, I am number 7, which I don’t understand because I did not order on the 15th, but I am not complaining! Only negative, the detailing was poor; there is a residue all over the car, which dulls the paintwork.

That's stunning Paul, very best of luck with it!
I was starting to doubt my choice of Tornado Red, having seen a few stunning green examples, but now I'm happy again
Also, too late now, but never let a dealers "detail" a new car. It'll only end one way. And I'm sure they thought they were being extra attentive with the red bows on the bonnet but thats inevitably going to have marked it too.

Looks great Paul  in spite of the poor dealer prep. The combination of Tornado Red and black is spot on and I love the black Warmenau alloys.
My experience of VW dealer ‘detailing’ - if you could call it that - is that it’s generally of a very low standard. I’d certainly never pay for dealer-applied paintwork protection (Autoglym Lifeshine or whatever product they use these days) or even let them do it for free; it’s almost certain the dealer wouldn’t do any form of prep work before applying the paintwork protection products. If you’re lucky, the dealer may spend an hour or two at most doing the paint protection when a professional detailer will spend 1-2 days doing a proper job.
Enjoy your new car and look forward to hearing how you get on with it after you’ve clocked up a few miles.

Thanks Joe! The dealer made a good job with my ED40 back in 2016, but sadly not this time. Nothing a good detail won’t sort out! I have a DA polisher so may do a light machine polish, but only once I’ve decontaminate it - I’d be interested to see how much reaction there is when I spray it with Iron Out!

Thanks very much SRGTD, I will post an update in a few weeks but I did just over 50 miles yesterday and it drives really well and can’t wait to get a few miles on the clock.

I've toyed with it but at the end of the day, I don't think I can justify spending £20k plus my current car to get a change of colour. The CS is a really good car and Oryx is not a terrible colour!
Btw, is that a little VW Ted in the co-pilot's seat? I have one from 2015, he lives in the n/s door pocket and keeps me company. He certainly listens to me better than my OH....

In your situation I can understand it’s a difficult proposition Watts. Exactly that, I’ve got another teddy to add to my collection. Some people get champagne and I got a teddy 😂

I got sweet FA LOL. Terrible really considering it’s a 50K purchase. Meh.

Mine finally arrived today (in Belgium that is).

@TomGti50.
Looks cracking that, if you'd have said to me gold wheels I'd have said no awful but they seem to sit very well with that green.
Enjoy her she's a beauty.

Can win one here i am in for a few quid you never know
-
Never let the dealership detail the car they are all useless 🙈 mine was a total mess!
-
First impressions after 250 km: this car is comfortable, even with pp.
Could be that I'm a bit biased as my last two cars were Hyundai i30N's wich are a lot harder.
I let some air out of the tyres too. Official numbers are 3,0 bar on the four corners. I put 2,8 in, keeping in mind that the Hyundais had 2,7 in the front and 2,4 in the back with the same tyres and about the same weight.
I would put the 3 bar back in when I would go on track, but don't see the need for daily driving.
-
That looks pretty special there Tom. What an ED should look like, not just another GTI.
-
Finally got my 0024 plaque from dealer today, now where to put it….. most peoples I’ve seen seem to be on the side when you open the drivers door, but for me why keep it hidden with a door closing on it. My preferred choice at the moment is just by where your left knee sits kinda right side of the gearbox column.

Would it fit in the cubby above the wireless phone charger where that rubber mat with the "GOLF" logo is? That would be a nice spot for it imo. Or maybe on the silver trim that runs across the dashboard, might fit on that on the passenger side.

Cubby hole defo not, I dabbled with silver trim dash and almost chose it, looked good from drivers side but sitting in passenger side the lines were all messed up. I found another place which I am happy with….

Ah yeah that looks very good! Much better than on the side of the dash anyway.
-
So whats the deal with the plaques then dealer just gets it for you later? Or do you have to order one?
-
Seems many have got it with the car, I had to wait a little for it to arrive at dealer but not sure if that’s because I was one of the first deliveries. But no you do not have to order it, should be an automatic thing.

Well, not everything about the ed50 is fun and joy, it seems.
My car is 2 weeks old and has develloped an irritating glitch in the infotainment: on startup you can hear the audio creaking and then the sound starts cuttting out. It keeps doing it, no matter how long the drive, no matter what source. It doesn't happen every drive, let's say 1/3. One time I also got warnings that everything related to the front assist wasn't working, but that recuperated after a few minutes.
The only thing to get the audiosystem to perform normal again is to do a hard reset.
After searching the net and this site for a while, it seems a very well known problem that exist since the introduction of the mark8.
Comming from two Hyundai i30n's that is very disappointing. Those cars could practically do the same as the Ed50 and never missed a beat. The little things that where a bit annoying in the pre-facelift where all corrected in the facelift and worked flawlessly.
A carmaker like VW should do a lot better. Any new car should work properly, but when they ask +60000€ for a Golf and have had about 5 years to correct all the flaws I wasn't expecting this...
-
We also have the front assist warning come on every morning then go out after the cold start has finished

Is the car parked outside overnight or behind a bollard?
-
Behind a bollard ?

One of those driveway bollards to help prevent thefts

Placed my order last week: Grenadilla Black, Performance Pack with Warmenau Black, Vienna Leather, HUD, AV Steering Wheel
-
That's a lovely spec, I saw a black one in person the other day, really Nice unassuming.
Is it a Uk car, as I see the edition 50 has been removed from the Irish configurator.
-

I saw that too. And 3 months after I placed an order, I still have no news, no updates, no build week. Absolutely ridiculous, kinda losing interest in it now.
Did you collect yours yet Donster?

Yes it's a UK order. Good to hear that about the black, I haven't seen one yet and there don't seem to be too many orders for black from what I've seen on here!

I'm surprised no updates surely Vw Ireland have some idea what's going on esp with build gone from
Site. Can't be very more to
Come into country if that's the case. That is frustrating for you. I see some non performance pack versions are floating in dealerships alright.
I'm collecting mine next week all going well heading for PPF this Thursday.
-
Anyone managed to get much discount on an ED50 yet?
I see that a few on autotrader are discounted now or are cars at dealer ready to go don't seem to be selling as fast as the dealers thought my local dealer said that he has had none ordered from his branch at all!
-
I’ve been toying with changing but bit worrying as take up doesn’t seem to be as VW expected in my opinion, few cars about now but no real deals as of yet phoned a few dealers to gauge market but offering ridiculously low ball p/x offers on my 8.5 clubby against edition 50s and mine is less than 10 months old with performance pack, dcc and loads more . Spoke to friend in trade and he said values of used are low at moment but main stealers not reflecting it to do deals on new stuff which is because they are marked up to high , in his opinion, so said why change as you have great spec car . Probably right but still fancy a 50 but not a these prices lol

My thoughts too, I would love a Tornado red 50 with some nice options but can see them becoming a bit cheaper soon as car market is extremely slow just now.
My local VW is absolutely stacked out with stock thats not moving and pre reg stuff.
I would keep the clubsport tbh.
I am look at 6k plus more for a 50 instead of a similar spec clubsportdue to available discounts i just don't think ithe 50 is 6k plus more car tbh.
Also the current colour choices are pretty poor imo on clubsports why they stopped doing silver, red and blue is unbelievable the original gti colours should always be available on a GTI imo.

My sister actually picked up an Edition 50 last week which is Red loaded up with spec but 58k plus all the detailing costs on top drove it a few times since she’s had it as she’s been away and I’ve been sorting PPF etc out for her , drives great but in real world driving not any different to mine , which is probably where most will spend their time, but it’s still a 50 with 25 bhp more power , lol . Keeping mine is where I’m going to be for now I think and see if VW do any deals or they start appearing for sensible money , or my sister gets bored as she does and I help her out !!! But I prefer the green !!
