Title: Coming Home/Leaving Home Lights
Post by: HonkeyGonk on 13 November 2025, 11:21
Hi all,

I have the MK7.5 GTi (2019 plate) and have had no issues with it - until now.

The CH/LH lights used to work automatically on unlock/lock but suddenly they seem to have stopped and only work once (after manually flashing the lights after parking up). Puddle lights work as expected and I've tried all the steps I've found online to resolved (turn off, go for a drive, turn back on, or manually flash the lights on park) but none seem to turn them back on to automatic.

The rain/light sensor isn't obstructed and seems to be working fine as lights are set to auto and come on when its dark and wipers work when it rains.

The only thing that's changed recently was a new infotainment update was installed - could this have done anything?

I've read I can go the OBD11 route but considering this worked automatically before and now doesn't, am I missing something else?

Many thanks in advance!

EDIT: I forgot to add that the only other recurring fault I have is a "42-Door Elect, Driver -- Status: Malfunction 0010". Could this affect any processes that register when the car is being locked or unlocked and in turn, causing the lights not to recognise the CH/LH feature?

Mine has always come on when unlocking when it's getting dark but the CH feature has only ever worked by pulling the headlights before getting out (you set the length of time on in the Info menu) - this really annoyed me because I used to have it automatically in my Mk5 - the only advantage of doing this way is that I avoid all of the 'you've left your lights on' remarks when locking up in car parks.

That’s the way any recent VW’s I’ve owned have worked too. And yes, CH/LHalso worked automatically in the mk5 I owned many years ago.

@HonkyGonk; did you buy your car new or used? If the the latter, then maybe a previous owner changed the CH/LH functionality by changing the coding so it worked like earlier generation VW’s. I seem to remember reading many years ago that any bespoke coding changes an owner has made get over-written if there’s an official VW software update, so I suspect that maybe what’s happened with your CH/LH functionality.

@SRGTD; I bought it second hand so I guess there was no way to know whether it had any bespoke coding - if it did, this was the only thing was changed.

Do you think there's any validity to the door actuator fault being a cause?

Sorry, I’ve no idea if a faulty door actuator could be the cause.
