Hi all
Just signing in to say hello. Had a Mk2 many years ago and loved it. Just sold my Boxster and looking to get back into Golf ownership with a mk7.5. If anyone is selling a well loved car please let me know!

Welcome Bristolgolfer
Smart move coming here to find a cherished car as many on the general market now are pretty rough including ones being sold by franchised dealers (as a colleague of mine who is also currently looking for a decent example will testify).
Maybe a wanted ad in the for sale section might be an idea if you haven’t already.
And a tag line in your forum signature(?)
A Golf GTI is a very different proposition to a Boxter, much less revvy engine and everything less direct and involving, but it’s a very good car for what it is (a handsome family hatch with sporting credentials and not a bloody SUV)
Good luck!

Thanks for the welcome and the buying pointers
I had 2 Boxsters within 12 months. I loved the 986 but just too tall to get comfortable so it had to go. The 987 was much better fit but just didn’t gel with it especially on our local potholed roads.
I think a Golf will suit me well. Really practical but able
To have a bit of fun when in the mood. I have fond memories of my Mk2!

Wanted ad posted 👍

Nicely worded ad it is too! 👍🏻
Aside from a brace of Boxters, what else have you owned since your mk2? (I had a few mk2 GTI’s myself many decades ago)
It’s funny, but get in a modern Golf and things like the seating position and cabin space do still relate to a mk2, the DNA is still there.

I’ve owned quite a few cars since the Mk2
Lots of boring ones but the interesting ones include:
4x MX5s (wife still has an ND)
Multiple Mercedes V8 E-class estates for family duties
A pre- Mercedes merger AMG 124 estate
Mini Cooperx2
Ferrari 308 GT4
Currently in a Ford Focus MK2.5 with 193000 on the clock as a stopgap which is surprisingly fun to drive!
-
That’s a very eclectic mix of cars, I’m genuinely impressed.
Which were the favourites? Sometimes it’s not the obvious.
-
The Ferrari was always an event. I used it as a daily in London for a couple of years and it was surprisingly practical. Long story but sold it after accident damage
S124 AMG I loved too. Rescued from someone who was about to send it to the scrappage scheme! Only about a dozen ever came to the UK. Used to surprise a few people with its turn of pace. Very thirsty together with a small fuel tank was a bit of a pain.
-
Wow! I’d have certainly imagined the 308 would be the pick of the bunch for drama and character but using it as a London daily is quite something, it’s no Smart Car!!

Just placed a deposit on this

I really like Isaac Blue.
Well done for finding a manual car which fits your criteria too.
The 7.5 will become as iconic as the mk2 and mk5 GTI’s; the last generation without the full on nanny aids but still benefits from the more useful modern tech, plus they look great too.

Fantastic colour, fantastic car.
I have a 5 door manual in isaac blue with tartan interior- which I bought brand new in late December 2018.
It’s the only car I have ever bought brand new- and I won’t sell it.
Mine has a few less miles- 37k- and Dynaudio. Otherwise just like yours.
Gets less use now as I use bikes to get around- but it’s always satisfying to drive. It’s so good.
Mine will lose its “ full main dealer service history “ status this week when I do the oil change myself- but that’s fine by me.
Interested to see they’re still fetching strong money.
Well done @bristolgolfer- let us know your thoughts on the car.

Thanks guys. I am really excited. Bought unseen but when I saw the colour I knew I had to get it.
I’m glad I moved quickly, a second buyer tried to buy it later the same day but fortunately my wife told me to put the deposit down and not sleep on it as I was planning, I guess I married a good one!
I have the reassurance of a 2 year VW warranty plus next 2 services for £99 which is pretty good. I’m going to get it ceramic coated before pick up as it will live outside and we have lots of trees in our road so will protect it against sap and bird poop.
I hopefully pick up on Friday and will report back with first impressions.

Nice one, hope you enjoy!
I picked mine up at same time as Yusee, ordered in June 2018 and had to wait 6 months due to the WLTP delays fiasco - worth the wait though.
Mines DSG, but apart from that, pretty similar with a bit fewer miles.
Stopped using main dealer for servicing on 3rd birthday and used local independent ever since.
Mines also a keeper - nearly 7 years old and still loving it👍

Cheers Adam. I’ve been busy arranging insurance and wasn’t as bad as I was anticipating. Only an extra £12/month over my knackered diesel focus. One of the only benefits of getting old!
