Hi guys I bought a new 8.5 golf and the rear number when opening the tailgate looks terrible. Can anyone please verify if they all look this crap.

Sorry @Mikeyd1; can’t verify whether they’re all like yours as I don’t have a Golf but I doubt yours is representative of the norm. IMHO yours is shocking and should never have passed factory QC checks or PDI at the dealership prior to you collecting it. So much for the so-called legendary German build quality………..
I’d be getting back to the dealer without delay to get them to sort it PDQ; the longer you leave it, the greater the risk of the dealer - and / or VW - might try and wriggle out of rectifying it, saying the deformation has been caused by contact with something else.
This a picture of a mk8.5; alignment of the top of the rear bumper is as it should be.

Please report back for the benefit of other forum members once you’ve spoken to the dealer, along with progress of getting it rectified. Good luck, hope you get it sorted quickly.

Spoken to dealer already he said that it it wasn’t like that yesterday when I picked it up , I’m fuming going strait there tomorrow.

Laughable, I’d be more than fuming - best of luck in getting it quickly sorted.

There now I’ll keep you all updated.

Absolutely terrible dealer , manager had the cheek to say he thinks I did it somehow. After some words on both sides they took the bumber off to realise the number bracket behind the skin was damaged and said they was happy to fix promptly. But the attitude was so bad I refused and said I want a new car . And the cheek of the guy said go get a solicitor then . After emails to the head of business I had a call to say they ordering me a new car .

‘Get a Solicitor’😂, what an idiot - good you are sorted though👍

Getting a new car should be something special - your new car experience will no doubt be memorable but sadly for the wrong reasons due to one individual - or a small number of individuals - at the dealership.
Great to hear you’ve had a successful outcome. If it was me, once I got the replacement new car I’d never set foot in that dealership again. If you get a customer feedback questionnaire from VW to complete, I trust your responses will accurately reflect your experience…………

Agreed . Terrible experience. Will definitely leave an accurate review . There’s actually so much more . The guy was so rude and obviously trying to antagonise me . I think if he could get me to say or do something which would give them a reason to not deal with me. Anyways the head of business came through for me so at least I got a favourable outcome .

Shocking this!
Who is the dealer?

Vw group1 Romford

Vw group1 Romford
I was half expecting you to say it was Group 1. My preferred VW dealer was taken over by Group 1. After the takeover, there was a very noticeable downturn in customer service.
I no longer use that dealer………...
-
My next closest dealer is also group 1 Chelmsford so I’m sort of stuck . But night and day difference to say 5-10 years ago .
-
Both of my local'ish dealers are now Group 1 - and as has been said front-desk service is not what it used to be - very poor communication/lack of call-backs.
Gone are good old VW days when I could just turn up with an issue and the mechanics sorry technicians would pop out and take a look and offer honest advice - that's when the same local VW dealers were run by a family company.
-
Yeh it’s a real shame .
-
Looks like Group 1 have taken over my local dealer in Stockport (not that I had any future plans to darken their door anyway). GTI was 3rd new car I bought from them, original dealer always pretty good with me.
-
Interesting. I've just taken my GTI for its first service at Group 1 Exeter and it's been a very positive experience. Great customer service/communication and very efficient. I will definitely go back.

That is the service I used to get from my local family run dealership. VW service definitely went down when they went to only large dealerships - with the odd exception.
