Just a thought, most people mod their cars for more power by changing the exhaust
Is there any performance difference between a CS with and without the Akra, aside from the limiter removal?
-
It’s just an Akra back box for nearly £4K.
There are many variables for getting extra power out of exhausts which involve each part of the system. As a rule of thumb but far from ‘exhaustive’:
Bigger bore = more top end power, slightly freer revving
Narrower bore = more low/mid range torque.
Then there’s the manifold which is a whole story in itself, plus cats, OPF, bends, type of silencer fitted.
The Akra runs the standard bore, standard cat, standard OPF etc.
Maybe a couple of horsepower if you’re lucky, but lots of car nerd points.

It's a weird thing. Akra don't make that part except for vw.
As a vw spare part is about 4k...
Its crazy, there are so many others you could fit for nothing like that sort of money.

The 7kg weight advantage must be worth 0.5s off the 0-60 time  And it does look very pretty...

Empty the door pockets and have a big poo for the same effect for £4k less

Also, from what I’ve seen over on the Golf R forum, anyone investing £4K of their hard earned in the Akra option for that ‘special aural experience’ may be disappointed, as seemingly it doesn’t sound that different to the standard exhaust (possibly due to increasingly stringent EU car exhaust noise regulations). So for £4K you’re essentially getting a different back box and a rather nice set of (titanium?) exhaust tips.
I know we all like different things and place different values on the things we might - or might not - buy, but to me £4K doesn’t sound particularly good value for something that, on the face of it, doesn’t seem to offer much - if anything - more than the standard exhaust.

Exhausts don't typically give much if any more power on their own, they can look and sound better than factory though (all subjective), and also on the other hand if not done tastefully, they are rubbish.
I'm sure you could get a decent aftermarket system with just as nice tips for a lot less, £4k is silly money! You would be in luck buying a second hand golf that the prior owner spec'd and paid for the exhaust though.
I didn't realise the cars with the Akrapovic exhaust were unlimited, they must have a different ECU map presumably than a factory clubsport? (I don't think an exhaust would achieve this on it's own).
