Title: Mk7 gti performance headlights
Post by: Mk6_matty_b on 09 October 2025, 08:54
So I have some deep UV damage to my headlights even after a restoration they are just not very clear or nice to look at!
I am also struggling to remove the bolt that travels through the brace into the headlight so damaged may be caused when I do remove as I have my dipped beam bulb to replace

As I may cause damage I was looking at a possible upgrade to the VLand style of light but no aftermarket parts seem to be able to fit original xenon gti's?

I need help.in finding either some like for like replacements or helping the aftermarket market?

Nice one all,

Matt

How did you try and restore them?
I have brought back headlights on much older cars that look awful using a DA polisher with the right pad and compound. You can even start with 1500 grit sandpaper and polish out.
However, best done with lights removed.
And you need to apply (regularly) a good UV protector like Sonax https://www.amazon.co.uk/SONAX-02765410-Headlight-Sealant-50ml/dp/B08144X7H2/ref=asc_df_B08144X7H2?mcid=94353301aa5d36d2bb2f67210247e87a&hvocijid=4404622665668576625-B08144X7H2-&hvexpln=74&tag=googshopuk-21&linkCode=df0&hvadid=696285193871&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=4404622665668576625&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9195710&hvtargid=pla-2281435176858&psc=1&gad_source=1

I did manage to find a guy who has now restored the headlights using the same techniques as you have spoken about and it did work they now look like fresh out the shop!
