Title: Black pack removal
Post by: flipflops on 02 October 2025, 21:05
Silly question, looking at a few cars at the moment all of which seem to be specced with black pack, it looks to be a grill and headlight swap to restore the red stripe, ideally I'd like to find one without the black pack, has anyone considered this?

Headlights will be replacement whole units of a led matrix design... That's going to be really, really expensive.

New from vw is a grand each. Second hand is 300-700 each...

As above, will cost you a fortune. It’s akin to asking how much to repaint the car a different colour. Much cheaper and much less hassle to find a car in the spec you want.

Yeah I did think they could be pretty expensive, however if it was a bolt off / on job or swap with someone who wanted the black pack then worth considering. I'd prefer to get the right spec if possible tho

You can change the middle section and add a red stripe over there instead of black. Leave headlights as it is. You will still have a red stripe in it. (just like MK8 GTI without Matrix headlights but just with Led Plus optics, totally alright).

Mine is a Black Edition and I think it looks great especially being a white car.

I get all the heritage stuff around the red stripe but personally I’m a big fan of the Black Pack. The darker lights look

Would I pay the UK RRP for the styling pack? Absolutely not, but in €-Land it’s much cheaper and on a used car it’s essentially free. Same goes for the Akra. £4K - no way! But on a used car it’s priced in and a nice to have.

I say to my OH that the car is wearing shades!

Likewise if I had bought new, I would not have paid for the Black or Performance Packs. I'd have added the sunroof and black Estorils. But I really like the car as is.
