Title: Leaves etc behind lower grill
Post by: neiln20 on 02 September 2025, 11:28
Hi All!

After a 2500 mile round European trip I’ve got the task of returning the car back to showroom condition! Some leaves and other random debris have found their way behind the lower bumper grill; I’ve tried looking online for some type of telescopic cherry picker type devise which can fit into the gaps but can’t seem to find anything. I’ve not tried a hoover yet, but some are right at the back towards the radiator so not sure it would be powerful enough....any ideas / suggestions?

I followed a tractor with a trailer full of hay bails for 6-7 miles recently, and had the same issue. I used a small pair of kitchen tongs, fitted through the grille gaps and allowed me to pick out the hay and other random leaves. (Don't tell the wife by the way!).

It’s a totally impractical design and needs some mesh or something. My daughter’s Audi A1 is the same and it’s a painstaking task to remove leaves in the Autumn on an almost weekly basis when washed. It’s something you wouldn’t have had to put up with back in the day when VW was more of a no-nonsense brand
