Title: Centre hub caps
Post by: Rudedog on 25 August 2025, 19:45
I've finally got around to preparing my VW 18" Prets for new tyres and eventually putting on my car.

Wheels have been coated with C5 so I'm just thinking of the centre caps because the types that came with the alloys are the newer font style, my current centre caps looking almost perfect so if possible I'd like to use these rather than have to buy a new set.

Couple of questions..

Will the new alloys take the older caps - I'm slightly confused as I thought both new and old should be 66mm if I've read things right but some listing on eBay seem to have them at 65mm.

How the hell do you get them off the current wheels ? I've tried various suction devices but because the 2019 style has a raised VW none of them suck-on, maybe a plastic plectrum or the things that you use to take apart mobile phones?

Sorry, can’t help on the centre cap size.

As for removing the centre caps from the wheels; I always push them out from the reverse side if the wheels aren’t actually fitted on the car.

Thanks I was trying to avoid taking the wheels off but I think it would be the safest way to avoid damaging them.  I've bought a vernier calliper to check the diameter.
