Has anybody here heard of or had any experience with the PV4 update?? I took my 8.5 GTI to the dealership yesterday as a warning light came up for DCC a while ago, they didn’t find anything wrong with the dampers even though there was a code logged, apparently they found no information or TPI about that code, and described it as some sort of anomaly! However they said that the car would benefit from having this major (there words) update, they want the car for two days the carry this out as it updates every module in the car, I’m concerned that this could be a bad idea, having read many a thread over the last few years about how these large updates to the Mk8’s have often not worked properly and the car has had to stay at the dealership for many days if not weeks to resolve! The very limited information that I can find about this PV4 update refers to Tiguan or Skoda hybrids, I don’t have any issues or software problems that I’m aware of, and worry that it is perhaps not a great idea to have it carried out, any thoughts would be much appreciated.

And it does seem to take 2 days in the workshop and it also sounds like a fair chance of bricking the car.
I can't remember the mk8 update that was like this, but mine definitely spent 2 days in the garage and needed a new MIB unit to make it work...

Thanks for taking the time to look for info Fred, I too couldn’t find much about it, they seem to think that the car will benefit from having it carried out, although they also said it is only being released under warranty to cars where problems have occurred, I did have several bongs at the same time as the damper fault warning, one of which was a drive system error which requested I visit a workshop, along with assist system errors that stated they were no longer available, all of this cleared with an ignition cycle though, and hasn’t returned since, all now seems well, so I’m unsure about it being done tbh, would it be wise to request it not to be updated? Would it perhaps void my warranty if something happened that VW thought the update would have prevented? I sure don’t want to risk bricking the car and potentially be without it for an extended period when I’m not really experiencing any issues. 🤔

I'd probably do it if I was planning on keeping the car beyond the finance period...

I've had this update on my mk8.5, it took a whole week to install (at the dealership, this isn't an exaggeration) and they couldn't connect the car back to the online services after it completed. It also disabled some of the features. They gave up and asked me to pick up the car whilst they were waiting for VW to advise on next steps, then about a week later whilst I was driving the car randomly reset itself to the factory settings and everything started working again! The update has fixed a number of quite serious bugs that I was experiencing so was worth it, but in what world do VW think it's acceptable to require the car for a week to install software (and then it still to take a further week to actually work)?!

The mk8 had something similar I went through but not the week before it came to life....
I think the early attempts at the mk8 "upgrade" had people getting cars bricked etc etc
The dealers don't seem to ever have enough information from VW for this sort of thing and it takes a lot of damaged cars before they work it out...

What are the bugs that this claims to solve? I <touches wood> haven't had any gremlins, bar not being able to turn up Android Auto volume when the car first starts up (you need to turn the volume down first to zero, then it works again)
Are there well known bugs that this update is supposed to sort? Seems really risky!

I’ve asked the dealership for the release notes for this reason, I’ve only ever had one time when several bongs and warnings happened at once, all disappeared after an ignition cycle and never came back, there were fault codes stored though, because of this they advised that this update be performed, the technician stated on the paperwork that the vehicle software is currently at 0507, and needs updating to 0508 by completing the PV4 update. Even though it doesn’t cause me any bother, my forward collision warning can sometimes be a touch over zealous, I believe this is one of the things that would be addressed.they assure me it’s a safe update and the ones they’ve previously performed have gone without a hitch. I am unsure wether to have it done though, they told me I can decline if I so wish, and this wouldn’t effect warranty etc, so as it stands I’m waiting on them providing the release notes for me to see what it entails, and if it’s worth it. I’d bet my bottom dollar that they tell me VW will not permit me to view the notes though.

For me it fixed the front facing parking sensors randomly not activating, it also fixed various software bugs such as the shop not opening, internet radio not working, no live map info, etc. I had a TPI number logged against my issues which was eventually linked to the software update.
I now get over the air software updates, which I didn't get before and they've been pretty regular since the dealership update.
It also added a new button along the bottom of the screen for 'rapid cool' that wasn't there before - not entirely sure how this differs to 'max AC' though!
The only thing it hasn't fixed is the awful speed limit sign recognition, it's regularly wrong (and often by an extreme level e.g. on motorways (UK) it occasionally thinks that the limit is 100mph, whilst on adaptive cruise control).

That sounds poor Adam. That's early build MK8 problems level...
Is your car an early build 8.5?
