Title: Anyone carry bikes on their MK8 GTi?
Post by: Beebopper on 10 August 2025, 20:06
Does anyone carry bikes on their golf? I used to use a tow bar rack on my last vehicle, but don’t have one on the golf and not even sure they can have one fitted. What is the next best solution? 2 or 3 bikes ideally.

Yes you can fit a tow bar. Looking at prices it's about £1000

Ues, I do. I have a factory tow bar on my Mk 8.5 GTI which folds out of sight when not in use. There must be room to retro fit one.

My wife’s bike is an e-bike so roof bars were no longer an option for me. I bought a Buzz Rack Scorpion 3-bike rack from The Roof Box Company. I winced at the equivalent Thule price, read some reviews and am pleased with it so far. Thoughtful design and rock solid build quality.

I fold the seats down and throw them in the back. Otherwise, Saris bones are good for a rack options too :)

Thanks all, I’m folding the back seats and putting in a protective blanket, which is fine for one bike but any more and it’s no good. I didn’t realise a tow bar was an option on the GTI or the R, but at a gran maybe another option needs looking at. Maybe roof bars, the tailgate racks don’t thrill me against paintwork!!
