I have a problem with my steering which I notice only happens when it rains. On occasion when turning corners, my steering "jams" in place and it wont turn any further unless with force.
This gets pretty annoying especially when I'm trying to avoid those curbs!
Does anyone know what it may be and how I can fix this?
I have a Golf 3, 1996 SE.

The same thing used to happen on mine.
I had the power steering belt replaced and it fixed it.
They are very cheap. :)

Could have a part seized steering rack. If it has power steering check the level of the fluid.

Seen a mk3 have this fault, the plastic "guard" behind the o/s front wheel (not the wing liner) had fallen off. When you turn the steering to the right , water thrown up from the tyre hit the pas pulley and made the belt slip.

Did the early Mk3s have these guards as well? Have never seen an early car with one, and when I tried fitting one from a 95 GTi to a 93 car, It didnt fit.......
