Hi to all, I have recently moved from my eight year ownership of my beloved mk6 GTI
to a MK7.5 pp, I have been searching for an answer to my issue but as yet no solution.
The issue is a large red BRAKE warning that comes from nowhere whilst driving, it stays
on for about ten seconds and then disappears, it only happen occasionally and
I'm fairly sure its not a brake pad warning light, it doesn't effect the driving at all but its
just a little concerning, thanks in advance. doberman.

Low oil in the reservoir? or loose wires to the cap?
-
many thanks, will check it out.

That sounds like the collision warning alarm...
Does it just flash up briefly along with a ping noise?

Is it that one?
If it is then its either its detected imminent impact on the road or maybe its a faulty radar unit...
-
Or is it this one - the collision warning for Front Assist? Even after 6.5 years it makes me jump when it goes off - if it keeps coming on when not in sight of a possible obstacle, there may be an issue, if not, normal.

No it's neither. no warning noise, just large red letters saying "BRAKE "

is your car a manual gearbox?
The only occasions I saw this was on my previous GTi, if you approach a junction or come to a halt and knock the car out of gear as you come to a stop, I have previously seen this. Nothing to worry about.

Two reply's, yes it is manual 19 plate. and yes it could be that last picture. but not too sure about the icon above the word. thanks

Some places online seem to say it might be the front assist system saying "you should be braking! I've detected something and you're still not braking!", but that doesn't sound right for what you've experienced.
-
That's my thinking too, ie, a warning from the adaptive cruise control warning me to break but
when it happened last night I was just coming to the end of a long drive to meet the main road
so there seems to be no consistency in the way it happens. I've checked the handbook and the
symbol that appears is not listed.

Its the anti collision system..."front assist"
And yes it can be a bit weird about what it thinks is a pending collision. It can get bad returns off of metal signs.
You can go into the menus and turn down the sensitivity - it might be set to max...
"front assist" works with or without cruise control active.
If when it pings up you don't take speed or direction changes after a split second it will lock the brakes on.... been there, done that.

Hi Fred, I think your right on the money in your last post. if you do not cancel the ACC it
is still active without you realising and on occasion it will warn you that you should be braking.
I never realised that you had to manually turn it off, thanks for the wise words much
appreciated, and thanks to all for your suggestions. doberman.
