Title: Nuts!
Post by: P6GTD on 12 June 2025, 19:15

So, a nice but no options car at 19,500 miles. Don’t know how many owners.

25 grand.

An appreciating asset if anyone’s interested.

I am watching good 7.5s doing pretty well now.

Even if it’s 20% overpriced that’s crazy

Asking £25k for a 5.5 - 6 year old Golf is one thing. Actually getting the asking price for it is another matter…….

I’ve had an insurance pay out today for a stolen 7.5 for £1000 more than I paid for it 6 months ago - market is mad!

I wonder what prices will do as we steadily move in the direction of 2030 and VW continue to lose interest in selling anything but EVs.

Incidentally, I read somewhere this week that VW, along with BYD, is near the top selling EV brand in the U.K. according to latest stats.

Going back to this advertised car, it’s the opposite of clickbate where you get an unrealistically good offer to hook your interest.

But there will be someone out there who will love the shine and stick it on finance.

PS : it’s clickbait, not clickbate!!!

Out of interest how was it stolen?

Key scanned (I know the key should have been in a faraday pouch ) they then proceeding to saw the steering lock off for 4 minutes sat on my drive at 3am the last Bank Holiday Monday we had a few weeks back, the absolute balls on them is unreal!

I'm having post fitted on the drive and a ghost on the next one!

Bought a VW approved MK 7.5 19 Plate Golf R from VW Derby with 44,000 miles September 2023 and paid less for it than similar are going now at VW Derby.

Personally put it down to how good the MK 7.5 is, VW took the really good MK 7 and just added enough touches and tech to basically nail it.

Opposed to the dogs dinner of the early MK 8 which are at least couple year younger, less mileage, but cheaper in some places.

Know many say they drive better than the MK7 series, but I personally would not take the risk on one due to the issues, and as MK 8.5 are obviously new and pricier, you look to the next best alternative, late MK 7.5's

Eventually the MK 8.5 will be the used option, and MK 7.5 will drop, but for now, residuals will remain strong for at least a couple of years.

Nightmare, was it recovered or gone never to be seen again?
Is your insurance asking for additional security measures to be put in place?

asking prices are still very strong

when I bought my 2019 GTI 2 years ago, i had spent a year sitting on the fence to see if the prices would fall, they didn't. Using this example the prices are still the same.

btw the car above is from arnold clark, IME you won't get the same benefits as you will from another VW dealer, eg 2 year warranty, 2 year roadside assist, etc.

I've done 40K miles in 2 years in mine, it might get retired to summer/weekend car next year.

Found yesterday, completely stripped and burnt out  I've put a pic on another post.

No insurance not asking for anything, more for my piece of mind.

Such a sad state of affairs the lengths we have to go to to stop someone taking your belongings!

The Mk7 is also vulnerable to OBD port attacks to create new keys...

I fitted a driveway post about 6 weeks before I got the GTI and my first post on this very site was asking what size Disklock fits the GTI steering wheel. Day after I picked it up from the dealer I had an immobiliser and tracker fitted🤞🤞

Is an OBD port lock worth it I wonder?

this one looks good, but pricey

You'd be surprised. I bought a 69 plate 7.5 GTI PP in January 2024, advertised for very similar to this one. I was checking every few days for good one owner and low mileage ones to come up and when I did see a few and I rang the dealers, I was always told reserve fee has been paid by someone else or it's sold now and we need to take the ad off. I then checked numerous times a day and the same morning this (my current car) popped up and I phoned them straight away and requested a walk around video and then paid a refundable reserve fee. Had to travel 3 hours the next day lol. Dealer was not budging at all with the price and said I am lucky to have paid a reserve fee as two others phoned up after me enquiring about it. Could all be fluff, but it had only done 15k miles and was mint. In the end I managed to get them to chuck in two free services.

It's been a great car and the residuals are very strong on the 7.5s. My local dealer told me last year that 7.5 GTIs are flying out as soon as they come in. I would expect it to be different now though as the 8.5 is a much improved car over the 8, but I think people were turning to the 7.5 hearing of all the issues some people were having with their mk8s.

This might explain why...not enough people bought them!

Interesting that the girl who owns that car had the same problem as me in that she originally wanted an R, but despite plenty of them out there couldn't find a good one. Every one I looked at was abused or had suspect history. GTIs seem to be better looked after by their owners.
