As per title, FYI. there are now a limited range of functions available within both of the above APPS for the 8.5. OBDeleven has a greater range of functions available including some adaptation etc, both have a range of one click options available, but the most important one that I have been looking for since day one, is the ability to permanently switch off lane assist, I do this every trip manually as it just doesn’t work safely in my opinion, particularly on unclassified roads near my home, Carista now has the option to set this as remembering the last status set, so if you switch it off it now stays off until you switch it on again, even after a restart , I can’t see this option in OBDeleven as yet though.

Good to hear. I didn’t renew my OBD 11 due to lack of functionality. Do you know if it can turn off the speed bong permanently as well as lane guidance?

Using OBDeleven it appears that you can yes. 200 credits though if you use the one click option, personally I don’t mind the speed bong as it’s quite subtle.

Thanks, that’s good to know. I might renew my subscription.

I tried connecting OBD11 with my car earlier and I'm not seeing any of this. Do you have to do a "scan" of the car first, for these new Apps to appear? The App list for me was very short, I didn't see anything for Lane Assist or Speed warning.
I'll try it again later as I was pressed for time.
EDIT: Actually, I do see the "Traffic sign speed warning" but there isn't an App for the lane assist as far as I can see... And the Speed warning one is 200 credits! Most of the others are typically only 10 credits.

Yes, the lane assist option does not show (yet) in OBD11, the screen shot for it is from the Carista app.
-
Yes, I have tried twice now and can only see the ability to switch off speed sign recognition but not lane assist strangely, you can switch off the dash symbol for lane assist bit not the actual lane assist.
When I scan, I get about 20 errors for various things on the car, despite everything functioning correctly. I clear the codes but they come back. Never had this with previous VWs / Audis.
I’m finding OBD eleven flakey. I had 200 credits on my Vw obd11 app. They asked me to switch to the new obd11 app and all the credits have gone. The chat / customer services are non-existent. Everything goes into a black hole.
It’s a shame because i am prepared to upgrade from free to ultimate to get free apps but I can’t rely on the functionality or the customer services.

….I also noticed that on the OBD11 website it confirms that for the latest Golf there should be the app available for switching off lane assist, but it’s definitely not there when you connect up the car in the app.

When you go to the supported vehicles Using the OBD11 app, the lane assist memory one click app isn’t listed, however, as you point out, it is shown on the website. But! It says “ Attention
First, turn the ignition on and then open the vehicle's hood to activate the app ”, i didn’t have to do that while using Carista though, so it may make no difference whatsoever, but could be worth a try.

Will using tools like odbeleven not cause problems with the warranty?
-
I’ve tried with the bonnet open but the app isn’t even there to find unfortunately.

No, the one click apps are essentially just a box ticking exercise, the parameters are already set by VW and are available to activate, a different model or spec car may already be set up like that from new, you’re not changing anything not already programmed in. A remap or such like is a different story though, but even then it wouldn’t void warranty on the whole car, only on components directly linked to the ECU in question. They cannot (and won’t) void warranty on a faulty infotainment screen for example, just because the boost pressure was set to be out of factory tolerances. But blow the turbo up and you’d likely be out of pocket.

Having had my car for 3 weeks now, I looked into Carista /OBD11 as I want to turn off the Soundaktor. I’m not a fan of loud exhausts especially fake ones.
After some digging, it appears that the 8.5 has additional security - abbreviated to SFD2 (Cybersecurity regs?) which the 3rd party dongles have not yet managed to gain access to.
Some diagnostic functions are available but adaptations are mostly not. Which is a shame as I also wanted to enable rear DRLs as my wife always turns the light switch form auto to off and drives around in the darkness with front lights and no rears. 🫣

I’ve just been out in the car, so had a check for you, the Soundaktor adjustment one click app is available for ten credits in my 8.5 using OBDeleven, no rear DRLs from them yet though. Using Carista however there is the option to turn on rear ‘Scandinavian’ DRLs, so both are possible, but sadly only by using both dongles at present.😩
-
On my new RS3 (same architecture I presume), my OBD11 (old style, lifetime pro license) won't connect to the car within the app to even try a scan and long coding. I thought it might need the bonnet popped to connect - nope. Thought it might be broken, but works fine on our Cupra Born.
-
I found entering the VIN (continue option I think) works, then selecting the car the next time you connect. Seemed to work for me with the OG dongle.

I will give that a go. Looking at the original OBD11 dongle when plugged in, it's visually doing stuff as you're trying to connect - amber and green LEDs flashing in the casing etc

Thanks. I shall have another go with Carista, although it would not connect a couple of weeks ago.

Also used this method to add my MK8.5 using the original OBD11.
I need to have a look at what I can code manually as coded various things on my last few cars.
I will update the thread with my findings....🤔🤞

After the suggestion of inputting VIN on OBD11 to get a connection on my 2025 3 week old RS3, finally managed to connect, could see all the modules, was able to clear 8 logged faults, but could do nothing else. None of the modules would open except gateway. Needed to be in central electronics to try and get lane assist to stay off when switched off, turn off audible speed alarm by default and a few other bits. Tried unlocking SFD, to no avail. Hopefully an update to the OBD11 software soon will open these up.
Does VCDS have module access?
Everything is taking an absolute age to connect within. Might be worth getting a Carista unit if that works.
-
I have been able to turn off lane assist in my 8.5 using Carista, I set it as remembering it’s last state, but I have also had connection issues with OBDeleven and Carista, sometimes it connects and allows me to view individual modules, and sometimes not, it seems to be a case of try and try again. I’ve not actually tried VCDS as I have no VINs remaining, and as I have the option of using the other platforms I’ve not purchased more. I was an early adopter of Carista years ago when it was a low one off cost, so have grandfather rights of unlimited full use, hence why I have been using both that and OBDeleven.
-
I have those "Grandfather rights" on OBD11 with a lifetime Pro subscription, but it seems to do almost nothing on FL Audi. I wonder if there's anyone around Newcastle with Carista I could meet up with and try out?
-
So where do we stand today then?
It seems that OBD11 has a 200 credit app to turn off the speed warning.
And Carista has the option to turn off lane departure. Carlos has managed to get that to work at least.
I have an ODB11 'firstGen', the white one, so I need a newer dongle of some sort and the fact that one dongle seems to be able to do one of the functions, and the other can do another is a bit annoying!
