Hi,
Please can someone give me the disc sizes for my 2022 Clubsport 45, I believe the front are bigger than standard but Google brings up mixed results?
-
Fronts are 357mm I believe, have you tried putting your reg into euro car parts and checking the fitment detail tab?
-
Yep, 357mm, and two piece discs too so won’t be cheap.
-
Thanks, don’t think there is any aftermarket ones for the front either so yes very expensive
-
How many miles has the car done, out of interest?
-
The car has done 21,000 it is more a matter of corrosion, the bodyshop asked me if I had thought of just putting new discs on rather than painting them, not realising how much they cost
-
Is it the centre bells that are discoloured? Do you have any photos of them?
The rough finish in the dimples does collect brake dust, they should be fairly easy to DIY paint though if they’re beyond cleaning.
-
Yes going down the route of getting them painted, and yes it is the centres, I have found in the past if the discs are coated this doesn't usually happen but obviously not the case this time.
Easy DIY for some maybe, impossible for me to remove the wheels so I have to pay the price!!
-
Ok, easy DIY as in don’t overpay for the work!
I’m no expert on anything but I’m getting old so been around for a bit. Having owned a mk8 Clubsport for bang on 3 years and now an 8R for almost a year and a half, both cars using the same front brakes, the one thing I’m fairly sure of is I don’t think a coating would make a huge difference to keeping the front bells clean. I’m not into hardcore detailing but do like to keep my cars clean with very regular washing and I’ve noted on both cars that the dimples on the front bells do collect brake dust to a degree no matter how often the car is cleaned within reason. Both my cars above were owned from new and I’ve tried hard to keep the brake bells free of grime but not entirely succeeded. The dimples have a fairly rough finish from the factory so brake dust sits there and is hard to remove, I’ve tried all sorts of different brushes and mild cleaners but there’s always a trace left. Funnily enough I find a fingertip and fingernail one of the most effective ways of getting the dimples clean(er) rather than just brushes.
The best remedy will be a smooth paint finish and regularly washing them with shampoo.
Who knows, I might be wrong.
Maybe have a look on the dedicated R forum VWROC.com as there are many more R’s than Clubsports on the roads and some of these owners will be keen detailers who might have ways of deep cleaning the front bells and maintaining the pristine look. Although an R owner I don’t visit that forum, I just like it here but there’ll definitely be more forum traffic over there with keen R owners that share the same brakes as you…
Good luck and maybe post up some before and after pics.

Thanks for the advice, very much appreciated.

I think I can imagine what issue your having with the brake / bell centres, not just brake dust but possibly some form of reaction from chemicals like brake fluid maybe, cleaning fluids etc? Aside from brake dust, the brakes can also react and rust if chemicals including cleaning ones are on the rotor if they are hot, and then that area starts to rust as time goes on.
It doesn't help that the coating VW or the brake manufactures use is extremely thin if there at all. the best discs I had previously were from Brembo, proper anthracite coating on the centres and I never had an issue. Most VAG brakes rust, and in my opinion makes a nice car look a bit pants in that department!
I had mine cleaned up and re-painted, I had the rust issue on the centres which you might possibly have. I'll try to dig out a photo of before and after later and post it on here. I changed my wheels from the Adeleade's to a more open spoked design, and it became even more apparent, not great with a new set of wheels!

This is a pic of my Clubby’s brakes after a road trip when it was about 9 months old showing how the brake dust collects in the bell’s dimples.
The bell is alloy (I think!) so won’t rust unlike the steel rear discs.

Here’s my before and after photos, I think my car had some sort of harsh wheel cleaner used by the previous owner which reacted with the paint:

Yes they look smart now, exactly what mine are like in the before pics.
I would change to Brembo or some other manufacturer but it seems impossible to get aftermarket ones for the front with them been 357mm, i have even had Pagid in the past on previous cars and they stayed looking like new in the centre.
-
Very impressive transformation Beebopper, the before pics look like they had been cleaned with xenomorph acid.
-
Thanks both, it’s made a word of difference as the car overall is pretty mint, the discs really let it down. I could find aftermarket rears but not fronts, look like Vw only I think. Steph I hope you get yours sorted, be interesting to see what yours are like if you have a pic.

Yep, 357mm, and two piece discs too so won’t be cheap.
I had OEM front discs and pads fitted on my CS 45 before I bought it. I have a receipt for €721, that was including 15% trade discount.
-
These appear to be a relatively good price.

Just out of interest how many miles roughly do you get out of discs and pads, think I might be crying at these prices coming from a Fiesta ST!!
-
Depends how aggressive you are on the brakes...
I'd guess maybe every 30k for me.
-
I must be extra light on the brakes. Over my last 3 cars and nearly 200k miles, just one set of pads and no discs. Current car, on over 50k miles and not even had the brakes noted for wear from VW.
