Title: Mk 3.5 cabriolet
Post by: Louisecraig on 04 May 2025, 17:21
Good afternoon all,
New here  :smiley: I was wondering if anyone could give me any information on my new VW golf, purchased few days ago. All info suggests it's a VW golf cabriolet 2.0 petrol from the year 1999 in cosmic green. I'm hoping to one day take her to shows. Seems in good condition to me with everything except one speaker working... Any idea how many were made in this colour as seems unique

I like it, nice find.  :wink:

You could try the website 'how many left' but not sure it splits colour, but can't imagine many in any colour are still roaming the streets.

I asked Chat GPT for you;

Context   Estimate

Global (US)   ~300–350 Cosmic Green GTIs (1999–2000)
UK (known)   Only a handful of documented examples; likely very low double digits, possibly < 20

Bottom line:
There’s no confirmed production figure for the UK-only Cosmic Green Cabriolet 2.0 GTI. Worldwide, however, you’re looking at around 300–350 units (mostly US). In the UK? Red‑hot rare—probably only a small handful ever came here. If you want to be certain, your best bet is contributing your VIN to registries and comparing notes with other owners.

I seem to remember the VW Press fleet car(s) being in this colour back when they were launched.
No ChatGPT to assist with my dodgy memory though.
