Hi Martin,

There are many options these days but as they've requested it probably best to get them to tell what kind of trackers they are specifically referring to and what they need to satisfy their requirements.

Some options are Samsung smart tag, Apple air tag and plenty of others. Amazon has all sorts some with subscription some without. Of course there's the built in one usable via the app not sure if that's sufficient.

@sunnylumn, I agree with @Dav3smith.

Most insurance companies will have a list of which trackers they’ll accept. I dare say trackers that are acceptable to most (all?) insurance companies will need to be on the ABI (Association of British Insurers) approved list and also be approved by Thatcham. The last thing you want to do is to spend money on getting one installed of your choosing, only to find your insurer says it’s not on their list of approved trackers so isn’t acceptable to them.

Your insurance company may also have a list of approved installers, so when you contact them it would be worth checking if trackers that are acceptable to them have to also be installed by companies that are approved by them.

Each insurance company will set their own risk acceptance criteria, depending on such factors as;
For specific customers, the following factors will also influence whether or not an insurance company requires a tracker to be fitted - e.g.
There’ll no doubt be other insurance company and customer-specific factors too.

As an addition, when I picked up my GTI last week, the dealer said to leave the infotainment system so that you have to enter the s-pin each time you get in, as that way if it did get stolen it should ping the app the location when it gets parked. Bit of a faff but I don’t mind, it just goes along with the other pre flight checks you have to do before driving off such as turning off stop start etc. I do have one question though, on the screen where you enter the pin, there is an icon of an eye, but have no idea what it does. If pressed it and it doesn’t seem to do anyth8ng, anyone know?

You can turn that off (having to enter the S PIN every time).

The S pin is pointless. Have a look at stolen mk8 stories on here if you don't believe me
