Title: Golf GTI Clubsport Shock Absorbers
Post by: turbopower on 04 March 2025, 13:28
Need some advice please.
I've recently taken delivery of a Golf GTI Clubsport, car is outside of warranty.
I'm being told I need new front shock absorbers.
OEM are quite pricey and I've been told Monroe are good from my garage.
Can anyone on here vouch for them?
Should I bite the bullet and stick with OEM or go aftermarket?

Welcome aboard turbopower
It wouldn’t surprise me if the OEM shocks were Monroe. Or maybe something even cheaper.
Personally I’d bite the bullet and buy a set of 4 Bilsteins to take the car to the next level plus very good build quality.

I’d Get Sachs or Bilstein if it were me.

If you are not interested in taking the extended warranty from VW again, then I'd see this as an opportunity to upgrade. Bilstein are usually a very good option for VW's, fixed or even coil-over suspension. Depends where you want to go with the car, keep standard or some tweaks etc.

Also a question, are you on DCC shocks or non DCC? If DCC they I'd steer towards factory I think. If non, then aftermarket / better spec is the way to go.

Good point on the DCC, it did cross my mind too, and in such a case it’s best stick to OEM (Monroe).
If not then I don’t think Bilstein would affect All In warranty should you take it out as they’ll not warrant factory OEM dampers either unless  just fitted by VW and still under their guarantee period.

No... VW warranty is two years on shocks... presumably another 2 if you then pay to get them replaced.

I tried to see if they'd pay for my failed ones but no.
