I have recently picked up a Dolphin Grey 8.5 GTI and so far I am really happy with it.
On my previous 7.5 GTI I had fitted a boot sill protector due to having a large dog, and with his claws getting in an out it has been an essential item.
However, when looking to fit one to my new car, when you look at the VW accessories catalogue it says “not GTI”. I visited my local dealership and the parts chap was puzzled and could not understand.
Happy to look at alternative suppliers but does anyone know why it will not fit GTI, or give me a recommendation of where I can get one for my vehicle?
Many thanks

Maybe the shape / contour of the part of the GTI’s rear bumper where the bumper protector would fit is slightly different to that of the non-GTI mk8.5 Golf?
As an alternative, you could consider a boot liner with a fold out flap like the one at the link below (if you do an internet search I dare say you’ll find other similar liners of different quality and prices). The flap covers the bumper to protect it from scrapes and scratches when the dog’s getting in and out of the boot compartment. The liner also protects the boot area from getting dirty if your dog’s got wet or muddy.
Edit; Oops! forgot to attach the link - now posted below;

The bumpers / boot opening on the GTI are no different to the standard Golfs. They only differ in the lower sections, the lower valence, exhaust outlets etc. I can’t imagine these differences down low on the bumper would matter to a boot / cill protector.

Many thanks JoeGTI and SRGTD. I did think about the boot protector with flap but with an eager dog trying to get out sometimes he is on the Sill before I can push him back.
The parts guy was puzzled and could not understand either.
I guess maybe I need to to order an item, and with their agreement return if it does not fit?
Otherwise, will need to look at other after market items.
The 7.5 protector was great and there would have been numerous scratches and marks if I had not fitted it, so it is an essential item.

Still to collect my GTI but I have an eager dog that tries to make a bid for freedom as soon as the hatch lifts on my RSQ3. I had paint protection film fitted just on that bumper lip and it’s done well. Perhaps an alternative?

Good point on the paint protection film. I will look into that.

I bought some PPF pre cut from eBay and fitted myself. Glad I did as it’s very evident the paint would be looking sorry without it

Do you have a link for that mate?

VW definitely make these for the GTI - you can spec them on the configurator.

From this eBay store, although it looks like they are on holiday as no items listed currently. Think it was around £18
