Watched this MK8 today with 500hp at the Ring
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4zXltC6ghhQ
Then looked at the first comment, and quickly went back to watch the video.
Time check if it helps
2:50 sec
9:48 sec
track is approx 20.8km or 13miles.
Clearly I'm a bit naive, as I never would have thought it was still possible/desirable anymore.

Adverts all over Google for them, I never knew such a thing existed until your post☹️

yeah its mad, I just searched and a company will come and fit it too!
Apparently (according to pistonheads) people use it for lease cars that are on low mileage deals.
crazy, i feel like i have been living under a rock

I thought clocking went out with the Ark, long gone of the days of swapping speedos or getting the electric drill out.

Yeah or like Ferris Beuller, if you are old enough

Best scene in the film😂

I believe the mileage is stored in several locations or modules in the car. The ECU, gearbox, body control module maybe. Whether a mileage blocker covers all these who knows, but probably not. A dealer I’m sure can tell with their diagnostics. I also think consumer tools like Carly can identify this. Not really fair for future owners either.

And illegal not to disclose.
-
How is it legal to have an inaccurate reading on the MOT cert for the mileage, if you were complicit in the knowledge of that mileage inaccuracy?
I think one company (first hit on google) claims to be 100% intraceable. Madness
-
Very common, most common use is on lease vehicles - lease for 5k miles a year for cheap and drive the sh1t out of it.
If anyone cares to actually look, the ECU has a recorded "running time" counter. Which won't be blocked. See if that makes any sense vs the mileage display.
I mean the owner COULD have just loved running the engine on his/her drive and burning petrol but....
Biggest problem of course with having a car that reports 20k miles in 3 years but actually has 100k is that its probably not had the correct servicing...

I never knew this, but the act of 'clocking' a car isn't illegal in the UK. Its the act of selling a car without disclosing that it has been clocked (i.e. not disclosing the true milage) that is illegal. Seems crazy to me, as that puts the onus on the buyer to discover it. It should just be illegal. Period. The person doing it is doing it purely for fraudulent reasons. The MOT should include a check that can't be tampered with.

I was a bit shocked that this is still possible. Some mileage blockers will change all stored distance values but not all can change ABS ecu, engine ecu GPS/telematics or operator doesn't bother. Radio(number of hours working) can also give an estimate of hours driven and therefore mileage. How many dealers are this conscientious when selling on the PCP returns?
