Title: Seized bonnet latch
Post by: SuperScaff on 11 January 2025, 23:43
Had to unbolt the latch today to gain access as the handle has stopped working due to the mechanism getting a little rusty and seizing up also noticed the cable wasn’t seated properly in the unit

Cleaned it up well and applied plenty of lithium grease now it’s a slick as glass to open and close

It might also be worth doing the zip tie modification around the bonnet release cable junction box as a fairly common issue is the ‘ball and socket’ joint inside the junction box failing, which then prevents the bonnet being opened.

Check out the discussion topic over on golfmk7.com forum at the link below (the first post) which includes a picture of the modification. The diagram in the first post is of a LHD car, so the junction box on RHD cars should be on the opposite side in the engine bay.

A little copper grease is quite useful for latches and door hinges.
