Hi all. Picked up my new 8.5 GTI a couple of weeks ago which is a great car. I have noticed though that the first service is at 2 years or 20,000 miles. This seems like a long time to me, especially as I had my 7.5 GTI serviced annually. What do others here with new cars have set as their first service? Thing to note for my new car order was I opted for the first 2 years of servicing package and I am now wondering whether they set my car to 2 year intervals so they only had to do one service in that time. That is at least what the cynic in me thinks!

Fear not, they come set to long life servicing from the factory. If the car was on a maintenance package business lease the leasing company would likely want to keep it as long life, but being as you’re a caring private owner with a service package you’ll get it done annually, and in fact I think it’s in the T&C’s of the service pack that you have to get it done every year or approx 9-10k miles (whichever is soonest).
The dealer will change the settings to “time and distance” (annual servicing) on the first service.
You’ll no doubt be plagued with reminders via email when your first service is due from the supplying dealer.

Thanks for the response. Good to know and I will probably confirm with them as well. Certainly won't be leaving it 2 years.

Yes, do contact them if you want it set to time and distance instead of long life, they will change it now for you so that it displays the right time until service in your car, if you leave it as is now they will not contact you until it reaches near the current service reminder.

Have been in touch and they have said I need to bring it in to have it set correctly!

Yes it can't be done remotely, got to be plugged in.
I seem to remember they are all built as long life and you have to ask to have it set to time and distance before pdi... Or whenever.
