Hi i am planning on lowering my 8v gti H plate can any one give me any dos and donts. I heard some thing about the break biast control having to be adjusted, is this only when you go really low.I will only go down by about 30mm any help would be great thanks........
-
the break bias doesnt have to be adjusted, i dont think mines ever been touched and the car acts and behaves fine on a 60mm dropped 8v. id say its adviceable to adjust it though if you can especially if youre goner go lower than 60mm.

You are supposed to adjust the bias valve so that the slack is just taken out of the spring with a 'normal' weight in the car, I'd say with about £10-20 worth of fuel in the tank. If you lower too much without adjusting it might cause the rear to lock up too much, but with only a little drop you'd probably be OK, say dropping a GTI with a 40mm kit. But I think if you proper slammed a 1.6 Driver without adjusting it you might have problems ;)
-
^^ gimmie a month and ill test that theory for you
-
Choose Eibach springs, you won't regret it. Also consider replacing the shocks, bump stops and top mounts if they havn't ever been replaced.

My 1.6 Driver is slammed 80mm, i have never adjusted the brake bias (never got round to it and tbh i forgot i hadnt done it until i read this post!) I brake quite hard most evenings and have never locked the rear wheels up yet!
And now by saying that i have just jinxed my car....not going out in it tonight!
-
I dropped my Gti 40mm and never adjusted the biast valve. This resulted in the back brakes locking up on hard braking. I gotta get this sorted, its sometimes scary.
-
not sure how much ive dropped mine by but i never adjusted the bias valve and its been fine...rain...sun...snow..ice..
-
mines dropped 110mm and i've never adjusted the brake bias valve. i'm not even sure it works!! its pretty coroded!!
-
Mines real low and up until recently when i adjusted the byas valve the back end used to swing out on round abouts in the wet.
-
^^^ i thought that was tracked down to you being a crap driver!! :P
-
i dunno if gaz did anything to the bias when he had the car only just remembered he replaced the rear calipers with mk3 ones, but i had a seat of the pants moment this after noon when the car slide sideways round the end of my road. I wasnt speeding but the road was water logged abit and i aquaplaned round it must have looked cool from the pavement but i didnt think so from where i was sat :S
-
mine does it on roundabouts in the wet if i turn a bit sharp...probably cos of my rear strut brace and too stiff rear shocks...
great fun tho

Ooooooooo throw that b!tch a bone!
The last 2 comments sound exactly like what was happening to me. I got a bit sick of washing my undies so adjusted the bias. All is fresh and rosy now.
